Default oil, oil filters, and coolers for 2jz

    hey guys,

not sure which filters to buy for my 2jzgte. genuine toyota or jap brand (SARD etc)? the old banger corolla can have the generic ones..

what is the best oil? not sure if some royal purple ($120ish a 4L?) or just a full synthetic castrol gold or something more available..

also i brought a omori oil filter relocation kit, i swapped my FC rx7 oil cooler for a oxford cooler. i was intending on using the cooler for that auto but its prob a bit small to be used as a trans cooler. wondering if i should use it for the motor.

but on the other hand at the moment its only actually hot in tassie for about 2-3months. the extra capacity and actual cooling may take it quite a bit longer to warm the oil up.. another option maybe to get a oil/water heat exchanger (think camrys came with them..).

    your thought would be appreciated.

Your engine already has an oil/water heat exchanger. This works fine if you're not making eleventy billion hp. Use a genuine Toyota filter if you care about the engine, fancy-pants Jap brands won't give you any additional benefits. As for oil, use whatever good quality brand you prefer, every single person on this forum will have a different opinion on which is "best" and very likely none of them will be correct.

i care about my engine hence why i said not generic oil filters...

perhaps i may have noticed the heat exchanger if i had actually seen my motor hehe.

    Hey mate.
Just stick to a Genuine filter. Can't really go wrong with them.
Is it a street car or is it going to see some track work. If it's just a streeter then the factory heat exchanger will be fine.
As for oil, i personally use Motul. I even run this in my runabout Hilux but use the better stuff for the cressy. Once again though, it comes down to what the car is being used for.

car is a daily and maybe used for towing.. however im likely to give it a little caining from time to time.

but i want to keep the motor going for as long as i can and take care of it as best as possible.. so spending a few extra bux on oil/filters really seem like a good idea to me

    genuine toyota it is.
