Question 1ggte in KE clearance problems please help.

    hi,

I have just started a 1ggte convo in a ke30. I have be scaning forums and stuff for ages, can't find any photos of one in a ke, though i know that some people have done this conversion.

I can find heaps of info on struts and diffs and all of that sort of thing, I have a 38 pages of info, but none ot helping me fit the 1ggte in. the following are the problems i am having so any help or advice would be good. My problems are....

Problem One: Turbo is touching the steering box.
Solution one: Convert the old steering to r,n,p.
Solution two: Remove the twin turbos and run a single.

Problem two: I'm not sure how to make the engine sit any lower, I have already modified the sump so it clears the cross member and the rubber mounts i have are only 50mm high. This is a problem because the bonnet will not close.
Solution one: Put a step up in the bonnet to clear the engine.
    Solution two: ?

    Thanks
    Pete

One thing i know causes problems is the harmonic balancer, you need th machine the front pulleys of so its a single pulley only, otherwise its to long. But maybe ask trent for some details of his setup?

    dry sump = big dollars.
Dont go there unless you want to track race the car, and have no budget....

Username: "trent-ke30" DO a search for his thread in members rides.

lower the cross member?? how far does the engine have to come down??

single turbo would make the conversion easier clearance wise for the steering box and give much better power
    cheers steve,

it will fit in there no drama with the turbos and stock steering setup
The sump will need to sit about 2cm off the crossmember and the back of the head will be about 10mm from the firewall, just make mounts to fit there, u will need to make a custom dump pipe off the turbos to make it fit as well

with trents its still got 2 of the 3 pulleys there, so just the 1 will be fine and it will fit with the stock radiator and a thermo fan on the front

Yep that's it and don't expect it to like running cool when its 40deg either lol Not much air flow gets in there!

Apart from that its pretty simple get the motor where everything clears and make mounts from there, going single turbo from the beginning would be the best bet, I currently run a GT3076 and there is just enough room for a 3" dump.

    Cheers

    Thanks guys,

That should fix my probs no worries, cant wait till i've got it going. I still need to organize a pair of xt struts, and a borg warner diff. I am thinking of getting one out of a VS commodore so as i can have disks on the back, and a lsd center.
