    Default 1GGTE > RA60, few problems.

ok, as it stands i have the 1ggte all bolted up in the celica atm.

everything sits there fine, few problems i have encountered (some expected some not)

    1) Sump, as im not moving the engine and gearbox backwards its sitting over the
sway bar as i expected. i marked it and removed the sump and cut it out.
the problem is i think i would have cut about 1.5 liters out before it would fit in without
hitting the sway bar. to me, this seems like a bad idea.

Removing that much from the oil capacity cant be a good idea right?
would i be better off extending the sides of the sump a bit to make up for the lost
    capacity from the sump?

or what if i had a remote sump/dry sump or something?
just something my boss recommended to me today because thats how it
    was in his Porsche.

    2) im using a stock clutch m/c but im using a SA63 clutch line so it goes to the right
side of the engine. but ran in to a problem the other day when i decided to put the
m/c in (i took it out because the engine kept hitting it when lowering it in to the bay)

The m/c got in there fine, but when i went to put the line on i couldnt get it on because
the rear turbo (inlet?) pipe is right in the way. now if i unbolt the engine and life it up
a bit i will be able to get it on no worries, but who wants to be doing that everytime
i have to change the m/c?

the only fix i can think of for this is to find a m/c that has the line outlet on the top/bottom
or left side of the m/c and making up my own line, but that might be a real pain in the
arse to find one that will work with the celica.

or... go single turbo and chuck on a T04E.
but, thats gonna cost way more than i make.

anything else anyone can think of that might work or if anyone has done this and
had this same problem could you chime in, would be great to hear from you.

    3)
this is my biggest problem out of all of them. i have a gen 3 1g. i also have a spun main
bearing (go figure), nothing else is damaged so i thought i would just got get a new
set of them but was told there were 3 types of main bearings for the 1g engines.

i really dont know what mine has and really dont want to take the engine apart
to take in a sample because i know if i take something apart and leave it apart im
going to lose the damn bolts or something.

is there any way on knowing what type they had by gen or something?.

    Cheers, Jason.

1, with the sump, is it possible to get a different sump? ie mid or mid rear?
1gs have been put in 60/63/65 a fair bit

    2. take the solid section of clutch line into a brake place and get them to make up either a flex line or a solid line to take a better path to the slave. doesnt matter how long it is
or modify the rear turbo intake?

    3. might as well take the motor to an engine reco place if your not confident rebuilding it yourself. bearing in mind the whole bottom end will need to be striped appart and cleaned to get all the metal out of the oil galleries etc. Prolly do the head yourself.

just ideas, good luck with it.

aftermarket sway bar can be made to clear the sump quite easily.

2 - would a clutch line with a banjo fitting at the master end help with clearance? If so they are easy to have made up at any clutch/brake place.

2nd the 'custom swaybar' idea, it shouldn't be too hard to organise, AJPS deal with Selbys, maybe they can hook you up? Otherwise Whiteline might still do custom gear, I know they used to.

For the main bearing, I'd pull the motor out/apart, as mentioned before it's going to need a good clean internally anyways, and take the bearing to someone and get it matched up.

it will come out, i've just put the engine in to make sure everything bolts up fine, clears
everything and anything i have to modify i can.
i have another gen 3 1ggte here with a good bottom end but a blown headgasket.
i may aswell chuck everything from the head up from this engine on to the good bottom
    end.

the clutch, im looking into banjo fittings as that seams to be the best idea i think.

with the custom swaybar i do beleive selby sway bars is actually owned by whiteline. hav asked but they dont seem overly interested these days in making special orders.
my 1g has a custom made sump by a guy in toowoomba from what the previous owner told mestill holds just over 4 litres of oil and just clears the swaybar.
