Default Rear Coil Springs into KE30 (T-series diff)

Planning on putting in a T-series diff into KE30, but instead of putting it in with leaf springs, have it with coil springs.

Has anyone done this before? What's involved, and what are the issues encountered? I suppose there needs to be welding for the top coil spring mounts?

Not looking for why one should have leaf springs over rear coil springs, but any information or references for a rear coil spring suspension conversion for a KE30/KE55.

You no longer have the leaf springs locating the rear end, so will need to incorporate trailing arms with appropriate mounting to the chassis.

    Not a simple job.

As per Parrot's post, there will be a lot of modification involved. You will have to weld brackets to the chassis for the upper and lower trailing arms and the panhard rod. You will have to be very accurate in your mounting of these brackets as the there is no adjustment in the toyota trailing arm setup. I'd say the top spring mounts are the least of your worries.

If you are serious about this conversion you would pretty much want an entire TA22 rear end (or similar) to get your brackets and trailing arms etc from.

Why are you trying to move away from a leaf setup?

Was planning on changing to a ta22 diff. But looking into keeping the original coil springs that goes with it. The car is going to be only used for street use. I know leaf springs would be sufficient, but just curious on a coil spring conversion.

Thought I saw a KE55 with a coil spring conversion on a forum a while ago (can't find it); claimed it rided through bumps and handled better.

Have a look at these sites to get an idea. These are conversions for mustangs, but same theory.

for the effort id go to a s13/ma61 IRS conversion, you get disk brakes and factory/aftermarket lsd's are easier to get hold of.

S13 or MA61 are too wide, even with FWD offset wheels you would struggle to keep them under the guards. Personally it just would not be worth the work and engineering hassles, but if you are really keen chop the whole floor out of a TA22 or a KE70 and see how close it lines up.
