Just get the stock one rebuilt? saves changing manifold/dump/inlet piping to suit a new turbo.
As the title states I am trying to find out what turbo is used on the 88 61 series Sahara. Standard / original & an upgrade if known . I have a situation with leaking seals on a Sahara I purchased yesterday & am looking at just changing turbo .
Cheers

CT26? from factory i think*
i think guys use the GT2860R as an upgrade..
Yes from the info i've found the CT26 should be standard . I have several options on where to go from here & rebuilding the original is last on the list due to redicilous pricing for rebuild . Have tracked down a low K CT26 as option 1 . Option 2 would be buy a rebuild kit & have a crack at doing it myself , only worry is on the need for balancing. Option 3 would be to buy a chinese copy for less then $400. May also look into the GT2860R but have to wonder about it being a direct bolt to the manifold !
CT26. Awesome motor the 12HT!

Make a new manifold
Also have a look into Masterpower Turbos, the user Bazda on here is a supplier of them and he'll be able to sort you out a good price.
As above 12HT is win.
UPDATE :
Pulled the turbo ( CT26 as said ) off & reco'd it . Have put it back on today & gone for a drive . Turbo seems to spool a little earlier & pulls harder . However it has not rectified my smoke issue . On boost I am getting a large WHITE cloud of smoke . Now being new to the 12ht , I am wondering if my assumption of the need to re-ring would be correct ? Oil pressure on fresh oil is good being just under half on the dash guage & rises under acceleration.
Any milky shiz under the oil cap/on the dipstick?
No signs of water what so ever . Guy I bought it off told me it used oil but no water .
I decided to do the turbo first as it was a cheap place to start . Guess next step should be a comp test to see if there is any obvious signs there . Just hoping that I dont need to do the rings as I dont really want the hassle .
What are the thoughts on "Lean" state causing white smoke . Some further digging on various forums has pointed this out . It may make a little sense as it is only smoking on boost ?????
If I was sure of the oil consumption i'd have a clearer idea if it was ring related , but as yet this truck is un rego'd so can only drive it around my 5 acres for testing . The guy I bought it off said oil usage was a little on the high side but in saying that his service intervals were non existent .
Id do a comp test as white smoke can occur when raw diesel comes through the exhaust completely intact and unburned. Also could be your injector pump/and or injectors/timing etc etc etc
Comp test would be first port of call after turbo for me.

If the smoke is white / white rather than blue / white, it can be unburnt diesel.
NFI what the interwebs would be going on about with 'lean state'. It should nearly always be lean, and generally, lean = no smoke at all.
If it only smokes on boost and your turbo is fine, I'd also be checking the fuel pump (especially if they have a boost conpensator diaphram). If the settings have been played with by someone who doesn't know whay they're doing, its very possible that it's just pouring fuel in, and its not getting burnt. Or, as Kedderz has suggested, low comp, not enough heat to ignite fuel properly, and some is going unburnt.
I see from the posting date that this thread is rather old... but I'd like to revive it for a relevant comment from my own (long way round) experience ..
I have a 12ht which had similar problems - the engine blew various colors of smoke, sometimes lacked power ..
Lots of oil getting past the turbo and running along inside of intake manifold after turbo.
This oil wet the paper filter in the pressure line to the governor, which meant delay in pressure increase/decrease to the governor., various flavours of smoke. --- After I cleaned the paper, the engine still misbehaved and the turbo bypassed oil.
Problems progressed to the engine stalling at highway speeds. I connected my boost/vacuum gauge to IP fuel feed ( 27psi drops to -10 psi !)
The fault turned to be fuel screen blockages in the tank the sediment filter, and the screen at intake of lift pump (looked like rat hair in it)
All where heavily blocked with silt - probably from 25yrs collected dust on the tank bottom disturbed by a sikaflex nozzle found in the tank .
(seems someone used a sikaflex nozzle to guide a hose in to milk the tank?)
Cleaning the fuel system seems to have strangely solved the problem of oil smoke and heavy blow-by .
Since fixing the fuel system (lots of unbolting/breaking bolts swearing, high pressure hosing, refitting , swearing, re-refitting etc. ) it works very well.
The blowby is about normal now (I think) .
I suspect the problem was caused by cavitation of fuel in the IP, resulting in late (retarded timing) injection in the engine with high injection volume until fuel pressure fell far enough to stop the engine.
The late injection may have done something funny to increase blowby ? perhaps the ignition of fuel was poor due (induced) late timing ?
Hope to have more reliable results when rest of HJ60+ is back in working order.
my mate had a captiva that smoked, turbo was rooted, we replaced the turbo, still smoked, we confirmed there was no oil in the dump pipe, but it still smoked, the exhaust had been filled with oil that was slowly burning off, my advice,
just drive it, and keep an eye on the oil level, it could just be the same thing, it took 2 weeks to clear out. he said it was like a smoke grenade was going off constantly, couldnt see anything anywhere, sooo dense!
if oil has been making its way through the exhaust, it could be saturating the filter/muffler/cat.
