1JZ into Hilux Camper

I having looking around for a camper to do some touring around. I am looking at buying a 1985 Hilux Camper running a 2.8 desiel motor that is well priced, but very gutless and slow on the road.
I have a 1jz sitting out in my shed gathering dust. What are people's thoughts on doing this because the camper is no light weight. Is this a good option or should I just turbo the motor thats in there?

i've seen some pretty good success with turboing the 3L you have. an intercooler, some more fuel and a suitably sized exhaust i think the difference would surprise you.

also if you plan on going into remote areas, it may be better to have something in the bay that people are familiar with too.

Significant power increase, and quite respectable torque. Would reccommend some oil cooler mods as well though.

I think one of the better kits is done by denco, as this seems to have the most bottom end and linear delivery, though MTQ, AXT and a few others all do them.

turboing the 2.8 like they mentioned makes a hell of a difference but in saying that now that i,ve sorted the 1j i would never go back to the diesel. not a cheap conversion though, the engine is the cheap bit. cheers big wad
