    Default 7mgte 3000 pipe query.

    Hi all,

I'm wondering at what power level the stock bottle neck style 3000 pipe becomes a restriction? I ask because I'm going to be replacing the piping on my 7M in the not to distant future as I have a new intercooler which although has the in/outlets in the same areas as the stock cooler, they are a different diameter and the turbo inlet sits further forward. I also just despise how the standard piping is routed, those press molded bits of plastic look like they would flow like shite..

I'm unsure what diameter piping I should use. Here are the measurements I took,

    CT26 compressor outlet - 45mm ID
    TB - 66mm ID
    3000 pipe - 50mm to 64mm ID
    Aftermarket intercooler - 50mm ID

Presuming the 3000 pipe will be fine for anything under ~250rwkw I'd personally like to stick to the 50mm ID throughout, as it should also help reduce lag, the intercooler will bottleneck to this anyway and as a bonus I can then use some of the rubber joiners from the standard piping to cut down costs.

    What are your thoughts?

    Cheers guys,
    Ash.

    2.5inch would more than suffice.

I have 3inch on mine, tis a lag demon.

Cheers, In that case I think I will run 2.25" hard pipe, I mean the outlet on the compressor is quite small, so i can't see how 2.25" could be a problem

I think that's as much to do with the uber amounts of piping and the massive turbo than it is the size of the piping.

But yes, 2.5" would be plenty.

And for reference the throttle body is 62mm at the rear where it meets the plenum.

I have 2.5" all the way through (except the inlet of the 3000 pipe obviously, it flares down to ~2 1/4 inch), minimal lag and 210kw @ 11psi, all good

Just so you guys know, you can pick up hks turbo a knocks offs for $100us. here

I may have to go with 2.5" all the way through afterall, as my intercooler OD's are 2.5" and i don't think you can get 2.5" to 2.25" reducers, it just seems a bit of a waste of money to go with 2.5" piping and all new couplers when I know there is a 2.25" bottle neck at the intercooler.
