I've got plans to insert a 3t GTE into my RA 28 and am contemplating running on lpg. I've heard that the higher burning temperature of LPG would mean that a larger turbo would spool up quick and eliminate lag. It would also save the process of installing surge tanks, efi pumps and creating a new filler connection as I have welded up the old fuel door to give a smooth line.
Does anyone know how I could expect the 3t to accept LPG and whether the information I have been given is correct?? A company called 'gas research systems' have a high reputation in injecting lpg to worked V8's, but i haven't heard of it used elsewhere.
And would anyone like to have some guesses on what I should expect in the way of horsepower?

2T-G - Half the valves but twice the fun.
Are you going to be allowed to mount a LPG bottle in the cabin? I thought they had to be outside the car, or with something between them and the cabin.
I've already removed the fuel tank, so it'd be going back in that spot. naturally, there will be some sort of metal massaging to get it neat, possibly encroaching into the spare wheel well.
I thought about 'deleting' the spare wheel in my RA28 well due to rust. But someone (and this isn't very reliable) told me a car has to have a spare wheel to be roadworthy.
Hi,
i don't think that the car HAS to have a spare tyre, but if it does have a spare tyre then it must be in roadworthy state. I'm fairly sure some new cars come out without a spare tyre at all.
Keep in mind every state has different rules blah blah blah.

I'm pretty sure its possible as long as it is done correctly. I've seen many station wagons with LPG tanks in the rear cargo area. They generally have a sealed cover over the valve connections which is vented to the outside of the cabin with a corregated tube that all the gas lines also run through. I've also seen these set ups without one end of the covered section left open which I believe is just suicidal.
You used to be able to get doughnut shaped tanks that fit into the spare wheel well also. These had a rubber seal around the bottom of the tank and the hoses ran up through the floor into the middle where the valves were located. The top section then had a cover that clamped the whole lot down. I had one of these in a RA40 coupe as my first car. Was perfect student car. Couple of bucks from the ashtray used to get me 400km's. Although LPG was closer to 15c/L back then.

Im not mega technical with how gas runs on turbo cars but something i got taught. LPG has a much higher compression ratio than petrol and also if at all poss run a twin spark setup and run a smaller plug gap .8-1.0mm and see if u get anything out of that. Im not sure if it will work but goin on wot i have been taught it sounds like it could work.
Yes, the whole idea is all perfectly doable and reasonable. Just don't let cowboys mess up your LPG setup! How much you want to spend, and how fast you want to go, will determine what you end up with. PM me for a bit of extra help if you like.
Mounting the a gas tank in the boot is a bit of a pain the ass, but can be done with a 50 litre barrel tank (pics if required). The gas research system isnt injection, its a carbueretted system which can make reasonable power(stradlater made 230rwKw, id like to beat that-both with single turbo 1ggte's) but its fairly primative and requires an conservative ignition tune. you can get liquid injection from the autralian lpg warehouse but it costs about $3K with the rebate and has to be done in the factory outlet.
anyway look at my or stradlater's build pages for our cars and youll see what weve done and what its putting out.
