Take a look inside, there is probably something (bit of gasket?) sitting on one of the lobes.
Hi folks,
I've got an SC14 and was wondering if it is mechanically ok.
When I hand spin the pulley I can sometimes feel slight resistance. Not much at all but feels like the lobes or something else are slightly glancing. Is this normal? Is a good s/c totally free when hand spinning?
Don't really want to start this in case bits of lobe attempt a combustion process.....
Can anyone help out?

might be abit of "over casting", could be just gunk. But if it is a solid object chances are it has damaged the lobes. But until you crack er open and take a looksy its hard to tell.
Hmm have cracked it open before, couldnt see anything.
Is it possible to have bent lobes, ie. one of the shafts is bent?
Possible, but unlikely.
They are fairly hefty things.

I've had a similar situation before, and tried to make sure the lobes were as clean as possible. But despite the slight "tightness" as some spots the SC ran fine on an engine.
I don't think you need to worry about the SC self destructing and sending a lobe into your intake. As Ben says, they are pretty solidly built, and Ive never heard of one (SC12/14) deciding to call it quits catastrophically.

I need a working 4AGE bottom end. Pref smallport GZE, but all others considered. Also complete motors.
Drift Volvo. Was fun. 2JZ next time.
