New Forums Niggles Thread!

we discussed that on the old forums iirc... basically Toymods aims to strike a balance between being an awesome tech resource, and having a social atmosphere as well (which non-car aids). The problem isn't the section, it's the people who abuse it.

Perhaps another mod in the section would help quickly cracking down on the dickheads?

Well we thought that peer pressure/guidance would work with the rep system, and people who caused issues by flaunting the rules would get pinged by others. However, this does not seem the case, so alternative methods are being discussed.

A trader rep could be useful but general rep as we have now doesn't mean anything, as long as someone isn't -267 it holds no relevance to a persons character on the forum.

Just my opinion.

The removal of the Outhouse from the old forums and the creation of Non-car on this version was to try and remove the bottom feeding elelent who abuse the forums.

We discussed having no non car type sections at all but as Greg mentioned, we are a social club and encourage friendly discussion and interaction. We would just prefer it stayed out of the gutter.

I know with each rule crack down and review we (Moderators and board) get re-labelled as Nazi's and other unpleasantries but in reality we are just trying to keep the balance of a social club with a Tech focus.

We dont want to lose the fun or the hummour or the light hearted digs amoung friends. But we do feel it only right that the smut and porn type content should go. Regardless of how much some/most of the board enjoy it - we all acknowledge this just isnt the place for it.

IE6 really is a crappy browser and supporting it means you cant do a lot fo stuff IE7 or FF3 is capable of supporting. I can see why it is getting dropped more and more.

This might be a silly suggestion, and I dont even know if it can be done, but what about rep that EVERYONE can see? Like the feedback on ebay? you can see what was said, why it was said and in regards to which item (in this case, post).
That way people can see why your rep is high etc. Yes, you might still get the mate repping but everyone will see it and can make their own decision as to whether that person knows what he/she is talking about or whether the advice should be taken with a grain of salt.
Just a thought...

agree with Sillicar, and was going to suggest something similar - combined with a "rep feedback" ability given to a select group of "power users" - ie, if they see that someone has been "mate repped", they can veto that rep.

I know there are a MILLION new features available with the latest upgrade you guys have done, and appreciate it is going to take a LOOONG time to discuss, plan and finally implement those features.

Kudos for the hard work board.

Hi,

Having rep being visible is something we are discussing.

As Witzy-babes says, this version of forum software has a million things that can be done and it is highly configurable, but with so much power and flexibility it takes time to understand what we can do, how we can do it, and then implement it.
