it sounds like the big end bearing to me
what oil pressure is it showing
well problems solved if its 7age time lolz.....
id pop the sump off first check the condition of all the bearings/rods

nostalgia is not what it used to be:
Just drop the sump first and check the thrust bearing (No 3 Main cap) side clearance. If that checks out fine, pull off the conrod big end caps. Easy to put all back together if all that checks fine.

i've had a 4age blow a HG between 3 and 4.. and it sounded like a big end.. and didn't really run very rough at all..
try a compression test also..
another 4age i had in my AE86 i scoured a bearing.. rather than replace it.. i continued driving it for a few weeks.. placed a GZE halfcut on order, and when it arrived went for a drift..lots of limiter action and finally it resulted in # 3 rod cap snappping off, launching the piston into the head, shattering it into 4 large peices, the valves were open when it hit also as the piston and rings had been snapped in a step like shape..
i gave that engine to Anthoney K for free to see if he could use any parts from it...
ha gave me back the piston in a snappy bag.. lol..

I'd like to update everyone with what was wrong with the motor.
We ended up pulling the gearbox off as well as clutch and just installed the bell housing with starter motor, started it up and the sound was still there so we assumed it was the bottom end.
Pulled out motor, pulled it apart down to the sump.. blah blah blah.. went to undo flywheel, a few bolts were loose.
While we were at it, we checked the bearings and all seemed good. Put it all back together with flywheel bolts tightened up for sure this time with thread lock. Started her up today and back to normal!
In the end, we pulled the motor apart for no reason. At least we know head gasket's good!
Edit: The flywheel was done up the first time, but I'm guessing it had come undone after the spirited drive. Temperature of flywheel/clutch exceeded maximum temperature of thread lock maybe? I don't know..
shit flywheel coming off would have been a bad bad outcome. Did you replace the bolts before u re-assembled it?
No... Should we have replaced it?
Everything seemed good to go back in so we just reassembled it. Too excited to get the car back together. Hahaha. I'm sure if there's another rattling noise we all know where to look.
probably should have replaced the bolts..... but keep your ears peeled for the same or similar noise...
