I don't think the mechanic work involved will be a problem for Merc... he's used to spinning spanners for a living. I think it's just a case of wanting everyone to put forward the pros and cons for the best all-rounder regarding style, performance, practicality, and reliability.

If you've got plenty of cash, I reckon a supercharged 1UZ IS200 would be a hoot, but on a budget you've gotta consider the availability of standard and performance parts for the engine and suspension... and replacement parts for body/interior.

So after thinking about decided to keep it 'mainstream', and maybe something you;re familiar with, what engine do you really want? 1JZ, 2JZ, SR20, 3S, 1U....

Then work out what it fits in. eg: An older cressy cruiser, or a middle aged Corona, or a later model supra?

If you want performance, unique, sleeper, RWD, cheap, etc.... You may have to ignore legality. Anyone say a stock 1UZ running in a KE70???

Mercs requirement list is remarkably similar to mine:
    occasional towing
    comfortable
fits bikes with ease (towbar grip rack)
bit of a hoot on hills roads

The 2JZGE MX83 fit my bill easily, and its relatively fuel efficient, and had no engineering hassles

Takai, If i could find a tidy 2J MX83 in vic that i felt good about i would probly buy one although im not a big fan of the setup its just such a easy solution.
do you know any info on the legalitites of a 1JZ in a mx32 cressie

although a mate came up with the dream today at work of a 1st/2nd gen hilux or stout with a 18RGZE (18RGEU with a SC12/14 hanging off it)
that would be tough and useful

I need to find a suitable donor as a straight clean car is harder to find than a engine.
and than drop whatever a suitable lump is inside.

sv21 camry........bahahahahahahaha seriously lol at the though if spending money on one!,

stouts are cool, but all i have seen are very rough, ie in need of a full resto......parts are hard to find, not going to be comfortable,.always going to be a truck, and still slow with an 18rgze,.....

buy something mid 70's.sedan/coupe/wagon, ther are going to have some luxuries (a fan ) and fit 1jz

Rohan you can get a bike rack for teh AW11 that sits on the boot lid and you anchor to the tow hooks.
I used Scott's (GunMetal) to get a bike up to TooF about a year ago.

the reason i would like to put a 3SGTE in the SV21 is exactly because it is so laughable.

its been done a few times over and is very laughable .

tho the feeling of chopping that fully sick vr wagon, or the hectic skyline every now and then would be worth having to drive a shit box day in/day out..........maybe
