SV25 - All-Trac Camry.
What I'd do..... Mods would be - 5SFZE(C30 Rotrex) and Lexus ES250 shell
I have recently been considering a few options of my next car.
I have a few requirements.
needs to be reliable, user freindly (semi comfortable, 5 seat, some boot space etc)
I have been given a very tired SV21 to drive so dont need immediate transport
and lastly i would like to to be tough, i cop soo much greif because all my cars up to now have not been that respectable, both slow underpowered and with rough bodies
weather tough means a few things either unexpected engine swaps, good power (200+HP at wheels) or just a really tidy clean classic cruiser.
I wont be needing a daily as of november as im moving alot closer to work and will be able to ride to work.
I have a few ideas but my concern is acheiving a legitamate roadworth status
1GGTE corona as above seems to be have done a few times not overly difficult as most issues have been reported,
3SGE AE82 again has been done not as common abit more work, and will require abit to get regged
3SGZE or 3SGTE into the SV21 never seen it done shouldnt be impossibly hard and would certainly surprise a few
(ST185 or later front cut made to fit the SV21)
Or find a clean old orig cressie/corona/crown and bag it
I have searched these forums and other forums for cars that have already been done and are for sale but i cant find any.

merc.. what model corona would you be thinking of? I know of a free to good home one at the moment....it sounds like an rt13* from what the guy has told me - oh and it was his dad's and sounds like it fits the one gentleman owner bill
sounds like your pefect car is a 1j cressi.
i dont have a funny or cool signature.
not a really great reason to get into modified cars :\Originally Posted by merc-blue

2.0lt engine, chassis also available with a 2.4lt engine. upgrade to 2.0lt turbo should be piss easy in any state. fairly straightforward conversion but don't expect any change from $6-$8k

A 3SGE into an AE82 is less work than a 1GGTE into a Corona. It should also be easier to register. Budget should come in about $3-$4k. Also, I have the engine & gearbox mounts to bolt this straight up so it makes it a pretty easy option too.

This is probably your 'easiest' conversion as the 3SGTE will be a straight bolt-in (although what the fuck is a 3SGZE) although again don't expect a lot of change from $6-$8k.

Assuming you can find something with a good body, then this is by far the best and cheapest option and you will most certainly get props for doing this. find something that doesn't need bodywork and is standard mechanically. A comprehensive suspension & braking overheaul (bushes, springs, shocks, modest brake upgrade with bolt on toyota crap) should set you back about $2k and as you're not doing anything with the body or mechanicals you'll be on the road literally in weeks and probably cheaper than the other options.
Bear in mind that old cars can be hard to find parts for and are not much good for anything even remotely resembling handling.

If you are buying someone else's car, I don't see why you would be stuck with the constraints of the particular vehicles you listed. Ebay, performanceforums, just cars magazine, unique carsales, unique cars mag, etc... I bet you can find a hundred cars in a week that are worth a look.
Must.... avoid.... urge... to... upgrade... parts I haven't.... used.... yet.....
eg: thirty seconds on unique carsales. price a little high but if it's as good as he says then it's a nice hassle free car and will come in at around $10k once you've bargained a little and done brakes/suspension/whitewalls.

Merc, buy Em's AE101 Levin (don't tell her that I'm putting it up for sale) and fit the ST185 3SGTE into it.
Then later you can morph the ST185 rear xmember into it and have a sleeper EVO killer![]()
Shit that's a cool idea!Originally Posted by timbosaurus

It sounds like you're looking at some vastly varied options...What's more important to you? What people think of your car, or the way it drives? Either one's valid...But a bagged cruiser is a lot different to a 3SGE corolla, or a turbo Corona. What do you use the car for, what is important to you in a car, and what kind of driving are you likely to be doing?
If you're mostly interested in what people think of your car, get a mid-90s BMW. Comfortable, prestige and *generally* reliable...

Mullet,
Im looking at a range of cars due to what i want,
I want somthing reasonably comfortable and driveable, also straight and clean.
It needs to have either roof racks, a tow bar or a big boot.
if it seats 4 than 4 doors would be nice but not 100% nessicary.
and i want it to be somthing i enjoy owning.
the AW11 is a great car but driving it to and from work every day is a PITA, i cant do the shopping on the way home if i pickup the missus on the way through because there is no room. i open packets of toilet paper just to get the suckers into the boot cause the pack wont fit. if i only drove it on weekends than i would love it and if i could some how find a way to transport a bike on it that would be even better.
Even stright clean early hilux (RN20ish) would be good
MX83 with a 1UZ, 2JZ or 1JZ.
Or UZS131 Wagon
That is all.
