Default piston and rod selection/help for my gze

I am trying to select some new pistons and rods for the gze.. the ones I have selected are

    aria's pistons http://www.modyourcar.com.au/product...roducts_id=538
    crower rods http://www.modyourcar.com.au/product...oducts_id=2666

now I have got the money for this (5k budget still alowing for gaskets and crank getn grinded ect.) but my dad beleives that the rods i have selected are way over kill for what i want to do with it.. he suggests I save my money and just purchase original rods and pistons as they will be good enough for what I want to do.. The reason I chose these was because I was chasing strength but my dad said that spending all this money on rods and pistons isnt going to prevent me from blowing up my motor or spining a bearing again anyway. my other argument is that I would have thought that purchasing the original pistons and rods from toyota will cost me pretty much the same as what i have selected there anyway knowing toyota's pricing. so basically im looking for your opinions on the subject what I should do? just rebuild it back to factory spec? I want to keep with the sc12 and just get the most power as i can out of it really without doing any major modifications.. so what sort of setup would be not classed as over kill for the power i will be making from a sc12 i have allready included a FMIC/ 175mm pulley and larger fuel pump in my budgeting. pointless in me getting rods for 400 horses when im oinly guna be makn 200 max.

so yeh product suggestions and opinions welcome to make my lil gze a happy camper again

    ta

    whats a bottom end gasket?

if you are keeping the SC12, i would leave it all standard. probably better value for money to do that and turbo or SC14 it, think of it like this, engine internals support power, they don't make it!

In that case dont bother with pistons and rodsthey can take an absolute HAMMERING!!!!!!!!!.
I still use them in my setup.

If you still want to change them let me know cos ill buy the pistons and rods off ya

I think there talking about oil pump / rear main cover and oic up gaskets. sump is a sealant job

I have Arias pistons and Crower rods fitted to my 20v turbo, I believe they were worth the money just on insurance value alone, sure GZE rods might be stong, but with the crowers there is no doubt. Any way after pumping big boost into the motor I wasn't prepared to take the chance with factory rods as there was not a lot of definitive information out in the forums...just heresay or NA motors which have under half the BHP of my motor and much less torque and combustion pressures with regards as to how much power a GZE rod will handle. Bottom line I wasn't prepared to build a new motor then pop a rod thru the block cos I skimped on stock rods, I put the crowers in and feel more confident.

yeh im pretty sure too but thats what the dude at coventries told me to get :S but id imagine there would be more like oil seals and stuff. havnt really looked to much into the sealing part of the bottom end of yet.

I can better most of those prices as I build engines like these for a living. The rods are not the limiting factor, the bolts are. The GZE rods are very heavy. We can provide stronger bolts in lighter rods for a better all-round arrangement. if you are on a very strict budget, uprate the GZE rods with better bolts, shot-peening etc, and keep the cash for good pistons etc like you have identified. There are many choices. email me direct for more info. [email protected]

    Boost 30 psi
    Comp 8.0:1
To date 283 rwkw @ 30psi 8350rpm But that was before the big ass turbo you see in my avatar it should now be well over 300rwkw.

I have been almost trying to break this stuff so i can see just how much they can take.

I have made 313rwkw with nos on the cooler but the head let go at 6800 ( Totally melted no 4 ) i though this might have broke them but when i pulled em out they were still perfect! ( couldnt believe it. i thought i might have finally broke em )

much more important that what rods you are running is..... what rod bolts you are running... (edit... beaten to it )

when was the last time you saw a kicked rod due to the rod itself failing, as opposed to the bolts failing? and if you are staying with an SC12 or SC14, you are obviously not after rpm, so it will be even less of an issue... rpm is much more important for rod/bolt failure than psi.....

and a good tune will help your pistons survive much more than more expensive pistons... both will break if you get detonation.

just as a Q, what is 'performance' about the bearings?

30p, aren't you running on alcohol tho? or is it 98?

gee over the years I have seen many many more rods bend or shear at the big end(cap and big end with bolts still intact on journal) than rod bolt failures....hmmm
