    Default 4age gearbox on 4agze?

This probably has been asked many times before but does the 16v 4age box fit onto the 16v 4agze?

The C52 can fit (or be made to fit), but it's not the best choice - ratios are set up for NA and it is a lot weaker than the E-series GZE box.

But then again, lazy conversions have resulted with C50 boxes being behind 4AGZEs, so there are worse options

    yes..

i know in RWD format you have to use the smaller 4AGE flywheel and clutch as the big chunkey GZE items won't fit inside the bellhousing.. i think you'll be right with room in the FF box's though.. but clutch P/Plate might be a little different.. might need to talk to someone running a C52 GZE combo.. once it's all running i wouldn't replace it till you actually kill it.. you'll be suprised how much punishment they can take..

the GT starlet boys are pumping out over 250-300fwhp and running LSD's and slicks with 10-11 sec timeslips with C52's.....

Yeah Mattyshop is on the ball about the bigger flywheel, I think the largest GZE flywheel doesn't fit into the C52 bellhousing, was it Feral who had to grind away substantial amounts of the C52 to make it fit?

I'm using a C52 behind a 4AGTE, so far so good. With the next build nearly done I'll let you know if I break it But honestly it depends just how much abuse you give it and your driving style, a certain twincam.org member went through about 3 C52s in his couple of years owning a stock 4AGE SX - naturally beating the jesus of of it will do that.

    actually i would disagree 1000%
my aw11 was originally an N/A and was converted to run an N/A ae92 bigport with aw11 ecu and s/c gear. the N/A box was kept.
It suited it perfectly, having rather closer ratios than the E box. that, added to the little bit of extra power from the compression and w2a intercooler made my car much faster than a stock s/c model. didnt get any timeslips etc, but it would pull many car lengths on a stock s/c whilst accelerating from rest. say 3-4 to 100k

i'll put it another way. if i ever bought a s/c aw11. i would fit a C series box to it.

as for strength, well mine was drag raced for 2-3 seasons before i got it. albeit with air to air and crap in take so less power. ran brass clutch too. never had a single issue.
if your car is a front driver, then i would be very surprised if you broke it. having said that, you can break ANYTHING if you try!

    so personally i totally recommend a C series box for a 4agze

So the main issue would be the flywheel size really?

    yep, sure can.

jsut to calrify some of your earlier questions, you ask if the box "will bolt straight up"
yes, it will bolt to the engine. im not sure what your doing. but to fit a C box in where an E used ot be you do need to mod a coupla things. is that what your doing?
other thing to watch when fitting C box to 4age, is the starter mounts.
some c boxes have provision to fit the starter on either side. if your box has a starter mount on the intake side, make sure it will clear the water pipes that side.
my flatmate spent 2 hours trying to fit a C56 with mount on the intake side to an AE82, i went to see what was taking so long. As he was lifting it by himself he couldn't see the mount hitting the water pipes and was getting rather upset!

Im putting a 4agze into my ae82 and dnt have the gze box as stated so was just gona mount in the box that is already on my 4age,
The starter on my box is on the exhaust side does that make a difference?

My main issue is will all the holes on the bell housing line straight up that was what I ment? And a few other thing may need to be tweaked to get it to fit properly, am I understanding correctly?

ok, i doubt you will have any issues.
yeah bellhousing will bolt up fine.
    should be prety straight forward.
let us know what you think of the ratios
