anyone? i know there are a number of '22 with 3TGs in them and they have accelerator cables![]()
Hi All,
As the title says, which accelerator cable to do have in your car or which one should i buy?
secondly, it appears that the cable bracket on the motor will foul the bonnet, what has been done to counter this?
I say appears because i have not put the bonnet on, but i used some square pipe ti mimic the bonnet closed and it fouls that...
cheers...

gee stretching my mind back almost 20 years (OMG i feel old) to when i built mine.
The TA22 had mechanical linkage for the accelerator and had to use the end of the link that clips on to the top of the accelerator pedel and unscew the rod from the middle of it , heated it up ,filled it with solder and dipped the cut off end of a Corolla (AE92?) cable into it so then it will join on to both TB and pedle.
Should not hit bonnet.
At least never did on mine.
hope this helps.
MATT.
This is going back some time also. With mine I looked for a toyota with a similar cable i.e. 22re or sv11 camry or something. Once I had around the right length cable and and rigth end for the throttle body I also grabed the pedal from the same car.
I welded the donor pedal end onto the ta22 pedal, ditch the mechanical setup and bolted the cable outer to the fire wall if that makes sense.
Roger
Hi,
I did as per Roger and replaced the mechanical linkage setup with a cable setup and accelerator pedal to suit. Even though this is now going back 15yrs I remember using the throttle cable and pedal setup out of a 22RE powered RN90 Hilux............I think that part of my build was the flashiest bit![]()

thanks guys, much appreciated... will have a look at a Hilux this weekend

Fadee,
I had no issue with the cable hitting the bonnet, but it is close.
Can't remember but I think I used a cable from a Camry. I just got one that was too long but had the right connection for the engine end. Then I modified the pedal end to suit.
Works perfectly...
Cheers,
Simon
well my car came with a pedal and cable, not sure what it came out of though... ill try get a pic up and hopefully someone can tell me the car it came from.
i want to keeo it cause it is just the right length when i test fitted it and i didnt have to run the cable all over the place to keep the line tight

Fadee,
I don't remember BUT I'll take some pics when I get a chance and email to you. You can choose from a number of cables the way I did it becuase I only kept one end original and cut it to the length I wanted and finally made an adjustable lug for the pedal end....
PM your email address again and you will see what I did.
Cheers,
Simon
Just did cable throttle conversion on my TA12.
I used a throttle cable from a Pug 205. It fits the original speedo cable hole perfectly without needing extra bolt holes beside it like most (all?) Toyota cables do. I also modded the Pug pedal to suit the TA12 (=TA22) floor mount pedal, and line up with the old speedo cable hole at a point where it had suitable cable travel.
Then moved the speedo cable up a bit (drilled a new hole), done.
Now have mid '80s cable operated 2TB carbs on the old 2T - a temporary thing until EFI.
