    Sort of mate.

    That's an auxilliary air valve.

It can only be used for cold start idle up.

When cold its fully open, then closes as temperature goes up. (Its connected to Ignition power which is also used to heat it up and close the bypass)

It can't do anymore than that, if your looking for something to control the idle speed electronically on your motor you will need another type of valve.

Check out page 6 here for more info mate.

yeah that is just a mechanical idle up valve. Apply power, and it allows air to pass, dependant on the temperature of the unit. It has to be bolted to the cylinder head to warm up accordingly.

Hmm, that's what I thought... This does however raise two questions:

    1. What sort of voltage does it require to operate?

    2. Is there a better alternative for a 2TGEU (can it be removed), or just stick with what I've got?

Sorry question 1. was answered in the Autoshop 101 article... same supply as Fuel pump 12V.

    Indeed, Ignition 12V is right.

If you have aftermarket management I would use an inline PWM idle valve to replace the aux air valve.

If your running standard management I'd just stick with the aux air valve. It works well enough.

    Aftermarket Haltech install.

Where would you get a PWM idle valve? From Haltech or would Jaycar sell such an item?

Sadly Jaycar does not stock them. (Mr Witzl, fix this please hehe).

But you can raid early falcons/excels/lots of earlier efi cars for them.

The best ones to go for are those which have two hose barbs so it can fit in place of the aux air valve. (looks like this )

They come in two and three wire versions, two wire requires one PWM output from ecu whereas the three wire requires two. (The three wire can also be wired with one pwm output but its not optimum. refer here
