    Default R engine help

gday i drive a 76 hilux with a 12r motor and L42 gearbox, just wondering if anyone knows if just the engine can be swapped out for say an 18r or 22r and keep the same gearbox as the motor has crapped itself?

    any help would be good!
    cheers

these 12r engines have a deep skirt block, meaning that part of the bellhousing is actually a cast part of the block. 18r's and later r motors aren't like this so you'll have to swap in the 18r gearbox with it. then you need to go through every 18r engined car you can find to get the right engine brackets that make the 18r sit nicely in your hilux.

If the bellhousing is unboltable and not intergrated in with the box then all you need to do is bolt the 18R bellhousing to it and away you go.I pressume this is a 4spd column shift?
