Default Dipstick location on mid sump 1UZ?

Hi guys, just cleaning up a mid sump for a 1UZ, and noticed a total lack of dipstick hole. Is the dipstick tube mounted directly into the block on some 1UZ models?

Any info will be greatly appreciated, cheers Chuck.

Greg, yeah the original front sump dipstick was mounted as you describe. But where is the bottom of the tube attached?

    cheers Chuck.

Greg, thanks for that, a picture speaks a thousand words. What vehicle did that engine come from?

    cheers Chuck.

Chuck, I got the engine as a spare (suitable for rebuild) with a heap of other 1uz bits with the original cressida. I believe it is from a crown because of the fan set up on the motor , IE is not set up for viscous fan.

Greg, that is interesting, as my Celsior has a hydraulic driven fan, and the old UZS131 Crown had a viscous coupled fan.

    cheers Chuck.

As Greg has shown, the UZS131 motor has the dipstick going through the head, down through the block and directly into the sump. The dipstick tube is only 4" long or so.

The UZS131 is def only a viscous fan, where the rest are hydraulic. (Aussie delivered LS400 is also viscous)
If its not as per this, it has been swapped at some stage.

Having a look at 3x 1UZ-FE long engines, there is a definate casting in the head to accomodate a dipstick as shown by Greg. With sump off there are galleries through the side of the block that could be used for a dipstick. Toyota's multi functionality shown once again.

Thanks for all the replies, cheers Chuck.

Peewee is right crown fan is viscous not hydraulic which necessitates the different bearing carrier assy ,p/no 16307A viscous. p/no 16920 hydraulic. sorry if i missled you.

Damm I should of read this thread an hour ago!!!

Just jacked up the UZS131 and the best pic is from the top, all i've got to say is that a UZS131 bay is tighter than a nuns c$$t, Even with the inspection mirror I couldn't see where the dip stick went once it dropped lower than the head. plus thats jacking the car up and looking up from underneath.

either way 1 pic for you chuck

Many thanks Stitty. A bit of engineering to do if I use a 1UZ other than the UZS131 engine.

    cheers Chuck.
