Default Is this an electronic speedo output?

Ignoring the yellow writing on this pic, I've noticed that it runs a black 3-pin plug off the final drive and doesn't have a speedo cable, so I assume it is an electronic sender. Having put this box into a different car, is there something I can do to convert this over to run my existing speedo cable?

    is that an E-series box?
If so, apparently the mechanical speedo drive unit from an AE95 tercel fits - this is what is normally used for guys installing the E58 gze gearbox from an AE101 GTZ into their AE82/AE92.

Being the same series box, should work the same

NINJA EDIT - definitely an E-series box, and the AE95 tercel trick should definitely work... i immediately recognise that 90* mounted speedo unit.

Yeah, the AE95 Tercel trick, or the even rarer E58 or E53 from 4AGZEs will do just fine

Yes, that's the speedo output. I have a nice blanking plate there
Thought about changing the speedo part of the cluster to an electronic one?
You'll need to generate a speedo signal for the ECU somehow.

You're using aftermarket management, aren't you, because the Dina's get their speedo signal from the ABS sensors, and then apparently via the cluster (not confirmed)

Its an AE82, which means there is no relevant electronic cluster.

I meant fit the guts out of an electronic speedo behind the original facia.
Been done before, or does the AE82 have an electronic output available?

you can certainly munt something else in there.... but its a lot of work. Ive put AE101 gze speedo and tacho into an AE82 dash before. Was a major PITA.

yeah just fit the cable dude.
If your ECU does need an electronic speed signal, you can get little adaptors that screw onto your speedo sender unit to provide an electronic pulse signal, and then still allow the mechanical speedo cable to connect and drive the mechanical speedo.

I know the AE82 4AGE has a speed signal to the factory ecu so it has to come from somewhere, I assume that the cable runs from tha 4A gearbox into the instrument cluster and it is tagged off there somewhere... yes? If so then I shouldn't need one of those adapters as I can just use the factory speed sensor wire?

Yeah, there should be a feed off an RPM sensor on the speedo cluster.
Given it had a 4AGE previously this wire will be kicking around on the passenger side somewhere.
