Default Repairing 20V bottom end bearing

Hi guys, a 'mate' of mine needs to get his engine out of his mate's place by tomorrow, so he's offered me his 20V ST for $50 with a bottom end bearing that needs to be replaced Just wondering what that would involve??

    Couldnt resist the offer

Id buy the thing for $50!!
Then I would rebuild it with all new rings, pistons, bearings and gaskets and you would have a nice little rebuilt motor.!!
If you dont take it, I might take it!!!
Go for it mate, grab it while you can!!

two ways of fixing the problem.....

    1) Expensive way: full rebuild using standard parts and having the crank and rods machined to accept oversize bearings. Do this to ensure that the journals and big end are round and are a matching size.

    2) Less expensive, more backyarder spec: take the sump off. find the bearing thats crapped it self, remove the cap and fit a new standard size bearing to the cap and rod. torque the cap back up. fit it to your rolla. go do a burnout and see if the enigne holds together.

Personally i would do the first option (actually im in the middle of this project now) then you know its done right. The second one can still work, ive seen it done before. But not guaranteed to work. could last a month, could last a year......

yeh i was thinking along the lines of the 1st option, cant afford to have it stuff up on me soon (uni student here). So you'd suggest the standard rods instead of something aftermarket?

nearly every stuffed 4AG I see has spun a bearing from lack of oil. in most cases the crank is scored to the extent it needs grinding. if its that bad, the rod is also usually damaged and needs re-sizing. In about 30% of the cases, the crank is bent and/or cracked also , and cant be saved. Unitl you find out how bad the problem is, its scrap metal value only.
