    Default EBC {AVCR.Profec B} Vs Hiperboost

    i am looking to get a 1J cressy soon, since fuel is now an issue {damn $1.45pl} i will be looking at a SAFC and a boost controller.

    has anyone used a hiperboost and a EBC on their car {obviously not at the same time}

    i know they are basically the same price, but an wondering if the quicker boost response of the Hiperboost outweighs the stability side of the EBC.

    The gain feature found on most current EBC's does exactly what the Hiperboost does. Previously, most boost controllers were setup as an electronic bleed valve. Now they actually sit in between the compressor and wastegates ala Hiperboost. This way, you can use the gain feature to stop any air getting to the wastegate which is where the Hiperboost gets its response. Both my $400 Gizzmo and my $650 eBoost2 do a perfect job of this.

    I never really got to fiddle with the hiperboost. I just use the wastegate controller part of it as my boost control as it regulates a certain amount of air to the top of the external gate.

    If they are the same price I would probably go for an EBC for the reasons that JCMF mentioned. Plus you get some bling bling

    Plus it's nice to be able to change on the fly from the cabin.

    so the hyperboost is unique as its able to do the gain thing but not be electronic

    Basically yes. It just uses a valve that you set to let air past it at a certain pressure level. So up to that pressure level the wastegate will remain closed. Eg. 0psi wastegate fully closed, 15psi wastegate fully open, 7.5psi wastegate half open. The hiperboost controller holds the pressure until it reaches 15psi and then lets it through to open the wastegate.

    This is why I can use this to control an external gate. I have one line going to the bottom of the wastegate. This will open when it gets to the wastegate spring pressure of 15.5psi. I then have another line that goes through the norgen valve and goes to the top of the wastegate. With this valve fully closed it will run 15.5psi. If I open it a little to let 1psi of air through it will then run 16.5psi etc. etc. Obviously this is not good if you want to change boost levels on the fly. However, I will have one boost setting and different timing maps to suit different fuels. I don’t really flog it on the street anyway unless I am tuning in which case I will have good fuel in there.

    Hope that helps
