maybe the lifters are noisy, change the oil with thicker oil and try again
Hello
I have an 18rc.
Today i picked the lica up from the paint shop today - looks awesome and rust free anyway that isnt really why im posting
I knew before dropping the car off there was a slight death rattle from timing chain when the engine was cold. Then after the car sat at the panel beaters for 2 weeks - being only occasionaly started (not wArmed however), it sounds like a truck now! A terrible internal clacking i can only associate with the timing chain.
My question is. ... How can i deduce for sure its the chain and why not driving the car for 2 weeks could cause it? Oil have vacated the chain?
Is it possible to tighten the tensioners?
Thnks in advance

Hi,
Check your oil. I know when the oil gets low on Trini she will cry out with a nasty rattle until the oil gets to the chain.

Thanks for your reply -
Do 18rc engines have hydraulic lifter though? Dont they have rockers?
Is it possible to audjust the tensioners?
Thanks
change the oil
tensioner isn't adjustable unless you change the spring on it.
18RC hasadjustable rocker arms - no hydraulics. But ... the upper tensioner is fed oil and uses oil pressure to assist with pushing the tension onto the chain.
change you oil as other suggest - then save up for a proepr motor for it.
