5 years of sitting... is a long time....
is it oxygen sensor equipped???
Hi guys. i have an AE86 with 4age converion i did around 5 1/2 years ago but has just been in shed for last 5 years.
It was running fine before, and now i got it running again in the last month but now when i warm it up it is fine, but when it reaces temp it is very rich and ignition advances off the scale (even when i have T & E1 shorted). it is set on 10 degrees and when its running it stays on 10 at idle but sometimes when it plays up it would be around 40 - 60 degrees advanced (at idle) and yes it does backfire through the intake sometimes because of that.
it seems to be fine until you stop it and then try to restart it. it will either start and idle at about 500rpm and when you try and rev it it is very very slow to rise or wont even rise at all. or.. it wont start , sometimes if you turn it off and floor it and then hit the key it will start and seems to run ok but again very rich and will hunt from 500 to 1500rpm.
this thing is doing my head in. ive checked TPS (even bought a new one) ,coolant temp switch, MAP and wiring is all good. am thinking it might be ignitor or dizzy but am looking for some sort of resistance checks for it. it has the 3 pin dizzy. i have also swapped ECU's to check as i have a spare, but same thing. please help!

Information is POWER... learn the facts!!
knock sensor perhaps?
working on something similar, random fueling and ignition problem happening.. turns out it was a buggered knock sensor sending random signals to the ECU causing either timing to go way out, or run very rich..
Research has shown child in front seat causes accidents, accident in back seat causes child
i should point out. It is a bluetop with ox sensor . No knock sensor.
Thermostat, water temp sensor?

The backfire says that the cam AND/OR ignition timing is off. Was it changed or adjusted?
When it does run, does disabling any cylinder cause a significant difference when compared to any of the other cylinders when they are disabled, by the ignition or the EFI, shorting or pulling a plug or injector wire? I would not short an injector wire!!! Distributor caps do not like it & fail when a plug wire doesn't have a convenient ground, so don't mistake a bad cap for the original problem.

'I've scrapped better.' John stated when asked about the car by the guy with the silver tipped cowboy boots!
ok. Well i have a new radiator. Thermostat is fine. On coolant leaks so cooling system is all good. Is not mechanical at all. Engine is fine aswell. Have rebuilt dizzy. But dizzy only sends signal to ecu. Ecu determines timing via igniter. Have already tried another ecu and same thing happens. So am running out of options here. Next in line is the igniter i guess. And got it running again means that i have been away from car for 5 years and it has been garaged for that time.
