    Default TA22 3" Exhaust Recommendations

    Hi,

I have got a 3" Dump pipe runnin straight off the Turbo, and am currentley using a reducer from the dump pipe to the rest of my 2" exhaust system, Im sure this may be causing some lag...

Iam wanting to run 3" exhaust all the way through and wondering the best way to do it, Im pretty sure there isnt much chance of running 3" pipe over the diff..

Am opting towards putting a muffler under the passenger floor well and dumping it out the side, keeping in mind cops aint gonna like it, but then again there not goin too like anything under the hood.

    Any ideas guys...
    much appreciated

Just run the exhaust under the diff with a flange just before the diff so if you need to jack the body up you can take the rear section off first.

ive done this on many cars and not run into problems yet.

be sure to leave 20mm between the diff and the exhaust for abit of droop travel.

    cheers

if your neat and cut angles right, you could splice twin 2" pipes to run side by side over the diff, then splice them back into each other to 3" to the rear mufffler..

this could also go horribly wrong if you don't do it right.. are you doing this yourself ie handy with a mig or even better a tig welder? or taking it to pistol pete's exhaust and fence shop specialising in clothesline repairs..

(excuse my hatrid of cheap/nasty exhaust places i have good reason)

or do whats common with firewalls.. NEATLY trim a section of the floor out over the diff and weld in a new section/deadon/paint so you have some clearance for an over diff system.. you should be able to get away with this depending how low your car is, without getting too close to the tank right above it..

I got a 3" exhaust over the diff in the RA28 with no clearance issues. Wasn't easy, took me a day of frigging around with different angles to make it work. Not sure if the TA22 has same or less clearance?
It was with a F series diff too which is slightly larger OD.

I removed the shocks and springs so I could easily jack the diff up and down and check for clearance as I went.
    Cheers

My '22 with 2" lowered and stock D series diff has a 3" over the diff with no issues as well...

As mentioned above, it depends on how low and what the car is going to be used for...

    cheers

    Thanks for the opinions guys,

Im an apprentice Boilermaker so yeah I have access to a welder, and I'm confident that my welding is better than Pistol Pete's Exhaust and Fence shop.

I've seen exhaust's run under the Diff before and it doesnt look too bad,

hmmmm, I'll continue to ponder on it,

    Cheers guys

I had my 3" exhaust over my Hilux diff with no problems. And the car was running very very low, so if you spend a bit of time doing it then you will get it done with no issues.

I have also tried it under the diff but to me it didnt look right and there didnt seem to be enough clearance, so i changed it.

Here is what it looks like under the diff - not real nice if you ask me but thats just my opinion:

To be honest i never actually drove it with it under the diff. i got it done, sat back and had a look at it and the clearance and then decided to change it pretty much straight after this photo shoot.

Need to run short enough stroke shocks to stop the diff dropping onto the diff at full droop.

Yeah 3" might give you a couple of extra neddy's, What cat and muffler are you using. By the time the exhaust gases have reached the diff area of the car, they will have cooled somewhat, therefore the volume and flow velocity will have decreased. Mandrel bends, particularly donuts are your friend when doing over the axle exhausts.

    cheers Chuck.

Dude, 3" is way too big for that tiny little motor with that big slug of a turbo!!! its probably best to keep the 2" system in place, at max go 2.5"

get it fueled right, get it boosting enough so the 'gate opens up then take care of other issues before 'upgrading' any other bits!!
