    Default TA22 front springs?

Guys and girls. I need to choose some springs for TA22 thats getting a 3s fitted.
The inserts are tarmac rally items speced at 300/60. I have been asked to find what springs people fit to their TA22s when doing suspension upgrades. I'm not talking about brands or such rubbish. I just need to know weights? In this state I dont know what sprinsg are measured in, but..well you know what I mean i'm sure.

Springs are usually rated in Kg/mm. The rate you'll want will depend entirely on what you intend to do with the car. ie. If its going to be a race car, you'll be after just about the heaviest (hardest) spring you can find. If its going to be a daily driver, most people would recommend King Spring lows or similar. I had a set of K-Mac springs in my old TA22 that were a good compromise between ride comfort and body control, but im unsure of the rate I'm sorry. Try contacting them and see what they recommend.
You might find it hard to find exact specs on springs (other than coil-overs) besides how much they lower your car by. If you want springs custom made to a specific rate be prepared to fork out extra.

Good luck mate, be interested to see what other people recommend!

Yeah the car is going to be setup as a tarmac rally car for the time being. The springs are going to be custom wound to suit the Bilstein struts so I just need to find out what to make them at.

    Cool1,

For custom wound springs I'd start with 280lb, (sorry about the old fashioned measurement) if they are to go on adjustable spring platforms.

For a Tarmac Rally car you will find that heavy springs are not required as the tyres need to stay in contact with all road conditions, not just the flat race track. If anyone has driven a car with hard springs, short bump or hard shocks on the regular roads would find themselves swapping ends regularly when really on the limit.

Longish bump and rebound lengths and relativly soft spring and shock settings are better. Body roll can then be controlled with sway bars.

If you are using the standard front spring platforms I'd recommend any of the springs, ie Lovells or K-Mac or King Springs, that are sold as "lowered/heavy duty". These tend to be harder than stock but not anywhere near a road race spring. Not sure of their rate either. Be aware though that a set of springs sold as "lowered" may if fact raise the height of the car, as most often the original springs have taken on a lowered "set" over the years.

My aim for lowering the front of a Celica is to get the lower control arm parallel to the road. Start to go lower and strut lenghts need to be shortened to gain back suspension travel and then RCA blocks need to be added to bring the lower arm back to parallel.

    Regards

Concur with most of what Rodger has said.

You'd want at least 130mm bump travel, ideally approx 65% bump, 35% rebound damper travel from equilibrium.

kg/mm is jdm yo! fanboy shit, quote in lb/in. Recommend starting around the 300lb/in mark, pending some further details. What are your approx. corner weights with the 3S?

I use 270/lb in my Corolla (KE70) with built 2T-G for crossover road/supersprint use and am very happy.

My struts are going to be Bilstein Escort rally items. *BLING*
I'm not sure what the corner weights would be with the 3S. I would very much doubt that the weight would be a lot more than the 2T-G.
I dont know anthing at all about suspension so i'm not sure exactly what the specs of my inserts are. All I know is they are to suit tarmac rally Escorts and my boss told me they are 300 over 60. Beats me what that means I do know that I can put pretty much all my weight on them and I cant compress them

Thanks for you help though guys. Any idea what the 300 over 60 means?
