    Default 3SGTE =>W58 What flywheel n clutch

    Hi there..,

I would like to ask something here. I am using the 3SGTE ST185 water to air intercooled engine. I have mated this engine with W58 gearbox.

What I want to ask is that:

    > Which aftermarket lightweight flywheel to use and
    > Which aftermarket clutch to use

which will fit into both my engine and the gearbox, but without doing any much modifications.
And I also would like to keep street driveable.

Besides this, if I would like to change the diff, what diff ratio to use. Please mind that my vehicle body is not Celica GT4, but it's Toyota Kijang / Unser.

Please advice, thank you very much. Really appreciated.

I got a custom flywheel made up based on the 3sge beams rwd flywheel. This meant I didn't have any problems with the clutch throw out bearing as it sits the correct distance away from the block.
Celica RA45 from these forums organised it for me from memory.
It was designed to use a ra60 clutch. I got an excedy cushioned button clutch for it.

I've used both 3.9 and 4.1 ratios with the 3s, and both seemed to be well suited.

I'm using a OS Giken Twin Plate Clutch/Flywheel (TS2CD from memory) setup for mine, it's designed for the 3S-GTE...

Clutch/Flywheel setups that are deisgned for the 3S match the W58, including the OEM setup, but some bellhousing and throwout bearing mods are required if you go down this path...

I also have a standard Beams Flywheel (variable mass thingy) if you wish to go down that path and don't want to go custom...

Thanks. I just want to clearify with you. Are you saying that if I use 3sgte engine mated with w58 gearbox, the flywheel and the clutch I should use should be designed for 3sgte.

Am i right ?? Kindly reply. Thanks.

More that I'm saying that you CAN use a standard or aftermarket/custom 3S Flywheel and Clutch, but you have to machine the bellhousing by ~8mm and lengthen the throwout bearing a little...

OR, you can go for a standard or aftermarket/custom Beams Flywheel and a standard or aftermarket/custom RA60 Clutch, which would allow no bellhousing or throwout bearing mods if I am correct...

It doesn't matter what pressure plate or flywheel you use, but the driven plate itself will need to match the input shaft spline pattern. No other part of the clutch or flywheel ever touches the box (except the ring gear, which connects to the starter motor).
Must.... avoid.... urge... to... upgrade... parts I haven't.... used.... yet.....

    Wha???

Flywheel choice matters greatly as it has to be a Flywheel that:
    1. Matches the amount of flywheel, and PCD, of the bolt holes on the crankshaft of the 3S (8 holes for Gen 2 and 3, 6 for Gen 1).
    2. Fits within the allowable limits of the bellhousing used for the conversion, whether it be a 2S or a 3/4Y Bellhousing.

Clutch choice matters greatly as it has to be a Clutch that:
    1. Matches the teethcount AND diametre of the gearbox input shaft.
    2. Has a pressure plate that matches the bolt pattern and dowlings of the Flywheel.
