Do you have a CSR plant over there?

You can get the race fuel type methanol which is good (more exxy) from VP or the likes or you can get the dental/food grade methanol from CSR for a shit load cheaper but isnt as good however we still used it in the drag cars, sprint cars etc succesfully.

Dunno mate i'll have to check on CSR. Pretty much a once off (well thrice off ) for this tune and a couple events before the ITBs go on and the switch to E85.

I really need E85 to turn up at a Canberra servo before the switch. I toyed with the idea of orders drum from Powerplus Fuels but apart from the etxra cost i'm not that keen having a 44 of ethanol sitting around next to the house

Oh, im going to assume you know the cons of running meth through your fuel system also

Shouldnt be so bad since its only 10% tho.

    What ya reckon?

Right'O...methanol is sorted enough for what i need for now anyways.

Yeah all cool Jeffro, well aware of meth and the nasty things it does to alloy and rubber lines. As you say, 10% shouldn't cause any issues and i'll only be using it for a coupla tanks worth.

I think i'll add the toluene too just to make sure i get a good mix...... i have some meth/fuel premixed as well and doesn't seem to be a prob though?

Last time i tried to mix premium fuel with meth a very close inspection revealed that it did not mix properly, let it sit for a bit and you might see this (like 1 hour). An exaggerated example is like fuel and water, but perhaps since meth absorbs moisture so easily it had alot of water in it (my case only)

Id still throw the mixing agent in to make sure it all mixes up good

Im also not sure what acetone does to fuel lines etc. Whenever i used it they were all teflon/ speedflow fuel lines and never had an issue tho.

EDIT: Mixing in a clear container will help to reveal any separation of the fuel. Id advice you look uber close at it because when i first did it i thought it had mixed all good aswell but it really hadnt.

This is one of the reasons they are recommending against ethanol fuel in boats... The Ethanol absorbs water, then floats on top of your fuel - removing the knock protection from your fuel.

Acetone does attack some rubbers.... i think in small doses it wouldn't worry you too much...

If it were my car - i'd mix the fuel up fresh ready to use - and drain it after finishing. And id use Methanol from a sealed container. I wouldn't mix up a big batch and store it.

Methanol is $250 for 200L, Elf prices.

Yes, the more toluene you add the hotter it will get, because you are releasing more energy. Any fuel with oxygen in it (alcohols, ketones (acetone) ethers etc...) will release less energy and therefore run cooler, but that means you need to use more fuel. And alcohols are less dense so it becomes a significant increase in volume.

The very literal difference in petrol with RON 91 and 98 is how much toluene (and similar compounds) they add. The price goes up cause toluene is more expensive then crude. By adding toluene to shit fuel you get the same product as using good to start with fuel - but you are ripping your self off.

    Apologies Jeffro,, some results indeed

I ended up with a 10% meth mix in a 60lt tank of 98 with 2 lt of acetone thrown in to help mixing.

Given the small quantities of meth i think i'm really only looking at a similar mix to chucking in some Nulon octane booster (the good one), which is what i have always used in the past and bought in bulk.

Anyways,, with the new inlet manifold (which was running lean pre tune), i gained 18rwkw on 2psi less boost. No hint of det but a pretty fat tune.

After the next coupla events it's E85 for sure. I have found a local source

The nulon octane booster aye? Any good?

I used the VP octane booster in a carbie bike running 14:1 on 98. It didnt ping.

The main ingredient is Methylcyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl aka MMT. If you can get ahold of that shit it would nice nice. Or just get the VP booster from Rocket but its like $20 odd a bottle. Have you tried a few of the octane boosters?

P.S. Thats some fairly worthy gains dude!

I've only ever used the Nulon (Pro??) after seeing the results from a comparo test. I never had a det issue but whether it was the Nulon, the water/ethanol injection or just a safe tune i couldn't say. To have a 10:1 comp engine last 5 years now on 12+psi means something is working
