TA22 3" Exhaust Recommendations

I agree, what a usless post.

As roadrunner has said and you know, there is not much room under there for a nice big exhaust. Going under or over the diff is greatly dependant on how low your car is - and the lower it is, the more likely it is to have to go under the diff.

The other option which is what has been done on a section of my exhaust is to use a 2" pipe and cut it half, then weld a strip down the guts. This will give it extra width, the same cross sectional area as a 3" pipe, and a reduced height, allowing you to fit in where a 3" pipe will not.

Back OT, you could use 2 2" pipes, or 2 1.5" pipes and split off the main 3" at the diff and run the 2 x" pipes over the diff and back into a collector!!! then muffler/atmo, etc.

or just do a 3" dumper before the diff!!

you will also need to remember that the lowest point of the car can not be closer than 4" to the ground...

(( so rim and tyre diameter - diff diameter ) / 2 ) - 4 = what you have to play with for exhaust size

thats if you are going under the diff for the exhaust...

There's a cheap ss 3" exhaust on eBay for a ta22, search oz for ta22 celica

Why not just squeeze a piece of 3" pipe in a vice or something so that its oval and use that to go over the diff? It will be the same cross section and you dont have to f*** around making one pipe split into two and back go into one.

Wrong.

If you crush a 3" pipe down it does not have the same cross sectional area as a 3" pipe - it would then be more like a 2 1/4" pipe.

When executed a little better than that, the general idea could work. Definitely time consuming though, fabricating such ductwork (you can hardly call them pipes anymore). For lack of availability of oval tubing, I fear one would have to fabricate rectangular cross sections from sheet metal...

Guys 3" over a Celica axle is a piece of cake. As mentioned before donuts are your best bet.You simply lay the before axle and after axle sections over instead of creating the exhaust in 1 plane.

Off the shelf 2" over axle pipe from an LJ Torana will be more than adequate for a 2T, as the heat ,volume and velocity will drop markedly by the time the exhaust gases reach the rear of the car. A smaller rear end section of pipe will bring the velocity back up. This is what manufacturers do in an attempt to better extract the water vapour from a standard motor vehicle.

Yeah, just about exactly what I missed on the previous page

2" pipe would need widening by 44mm to arrive at same cross section as 3"
2.5" by 20mm.

"Z" : is it that easy for shorter shocks too? They tend to move bump travel up a bit.
