if you want mild mods, cams are not the place to start..
Hi...
i would like to know does the ST205 OEM camshaft can be fitted directly into the ST185 engine or not ??
If it does, does it make a difference in performance or not ?? i only want to go for mild mods. kindly advice, realy appreciated. Thanks.

If you are going to the trouble of putting ST205 cams in, you'd be better off getting the rest of the setup and installing that, the ST205 shim under bucket setup is a popular upgrade for people going for bigger power levels in their Gen 2 3SGTE's. Waste of time though if you haven't done the basic mods first.
If you are after mild mods, you should start with things like exhaust, intake, and boost increase.
Yes it can.
and yes it should provide a mild increase in performance.

What I would like to know is that does the st205 oem camshaft will fit directly into the ST185 Engine or not ? thanks
As Roundy said, yes it will.
Sorry but 1 last question. If I would like to buy this camshaft, do you think I should buy or used part ??Originally Posted by tooch
Is there any of this oem camshaft come with ceramic coated originally ? Kindly reply. Thanks.
wouldnt be worth the money to buy it new from toyota if that is waht you were asking.
only the st205 intake cam is worth installing. the exhuast cam is no better than the st185 one.
they do not come ceramic coated nor should they be
The 205 camshafts have another 0.5mm lift, so should be a little improvement on the exhaust.

only th intake cam has the extra lift. the exhuast cam is the same as the gen2(8.smm lift) but with better timing. same can be achieved by retarding the exhaust cam 6deg's.Originally Posted by Roundy
or get a gen2 NA exhuast cam. same timing as gen3 turbo with .3mm extra lift.
best still in oem specs is get the gen3 NA inlet cam for 9.8mm lift and approx 250duration.
David: Looks like you got a nice RWD set up. What car is it in?. Also if you don't mind, can you please post up some picks, would love to have a ganda.
Quick question why don't you upgrade your turbo? instead of CAM?
I have changed my turbo with the CT20B turbo. i'll send some pics to you. Please wait coz it's not in this PC.Originally Posted by neal
I want to repeat what you meant . Are you saying that if I want to change the camshaft, I should change to the following part:Originally Posted by jonathan yee
Inlet cam : Gen3 N/A 9.8mm and appox 250 duration lift ( Ex ST205 )
Exhaust cam: Gen2 N/A extra 3mm lift ( Ex ST165 )
If it is, Sorry but I still do not get it. Aren't these parts come out from an N/A engine ? Why are they better than my stock camshaft ?? please explain again cos I'm new to automobile. Thanks a lot. Really appreciate it.
