can you take some pics of it?? i have the 2 different series bigport engine sitting at work..
Hey guys, I recently picked up a new intake manifold (saving me have to rip apart the car and guess what goes where when it goes back together). Now I seemed to have picked up a MAP sensored manifold (compared to my AFM-engined car) - it has no EGR, missing a couple of mounting points for brackets and has a temp sensor that screws into the manifold. Am I right in thinking it's from a MAP sensored car?
What I'm wanting to do is add -10 fittings to hook up my catch can. I have pulled the stickey-out bit of pipe where the PCV system originally hooked up, and found the hole leads back to a hole in the throttlebody flange. I was originally just going to weld the fitting on there, but checked on the manifold I have now and something called a 'Gas F.' (according to the vacuum diagram under the hatch) right in the way. I have checked the BGB and can't find any reference to it. First up - what exactly is it and what does it do? I was going to remove the fitting and t-piece the vacuum line into an existing line, but I thought it may have been for some sort of switching mechanism?
Secondly, if I end up welding it onto the existing hole for the temp sensor I don't need, will this cause any hassles with the rockers being under a lot of vacuum on idle, then less vacuum as I rev? I don't -think- it will (as I'm only running NA for the time being) as I'm fairly sure that's how it is set up from factory, but then again I don't know what happens after it exits that hole in the TB flange.
Cheers guys.

just cos it doesnt have a EGR doesnt mean its not AFM, my mr2 has the EGR totally removed from the system and its still AFM
It has a blank plate for where the EGR should be, but that's not the reason I think it's from a MAP-sensored car - it has a temp sensor that my intake manifold doesn't have.Originally Posted by KARNAGE
I'll get pics of both tomorrow, manifold is currently at work getting 'ported'.

well if it came off an ae82 ADM version its a MAP manifold. all ADM 4age were MAP. who ever in saying that im not sure if aw11's had MAP towards the end of the build years.
The temp sensor in the plenum gives it away as a bluetop (3-rib) MAP-sensored intake - the red/blacktop (ie 7-rib) bigports have the temp sensor in the airbox, but can still be MAP.Originally Posted by the_random_hero

Beautiful, just what I wanted to hear and sort of assumed. Am I right to weld the fitting on where the temp sensor was?

Alright, well. Pulled my throttlebody off today, found out that gallery just dumps pre-throttlebody (making my life difficult). Now, if I was to place a one-way valve (with positive pressure under the rockers opening the valve) between the intake manifold and the catch can, I can plumb the line straight into the intake manifold?
Now, finding a -10ish one way valve...
