    Default anyone rebuilt a CT12?

...as the title suggests, i have a problem!

...OK, title change since i now know more.

turbo no. 2 seems to be shitting itself and leaking oil into the compressor, which then blows down my inlet and ignites causing massive smokage on startup!

    3 options

    1. KKR380 single....cheap, but I believe there are repercussions when I go to put this thing through regency when its converted...will it pass emissions?

    2. rebuild kit....anyone here rebuilt a CT12?...i was under the impression that its fairly specialised...how much is a kit, and how much for someone to overcharge me

    3. anyone got a set of non-smokey ct12?'s

    4. ....profit?

    END MESSAGE

    OLD MESSAGE.....

...for some god knows what reason, the engine I have bought seems to be blowing oil at startup, after a while, it seems to cheer up and behave itself, but I have no idea why.

The engine has returned a full compression test with no worries, and the turbos seem to be spooling without issue.

THe previous owner is guilty of messing around with the oil feeds, so Im hoping thats it, I just think its wierd that it was fine when driving normally, and then when I start it up after leaving it for a couple of weeks it goes KAPOW~!!

I have started pulling it apart and theres oil on the inlet tract coming away from the turbochargers, is there a way theres an oil overflow or something I can check??

Could be unrelated but it also seems to be running mega rich on startup/low idle

likely causes people? andything i can do before I slot it into my RA23?

If it's blowing smoke just on startup, it could be worn valve stem seals, allowing oil to drip into the combustion chambers overnight, then when you start it the oil is burnt away.

...bugger, I hope not, thats not an easy job, that would also mean its really fudged, since theres still oil in the intake to consider

It is normal to see some oil in the inlet pipes, how much oil is there?

I'd think if the turbo was leaking oil, you would have smoke all the time, not just on startup.

blue smoke on start up is valve stem seals
constant blue smoke after start up but still idle rpm is rings
blue smoke under boost is turbo oil seals

or maybe a blocked pcv valve.......
or a whole heap of other things!

You can buy the valve stem seals, or purchase a whole Top overhaul kit if you like.

    ....okay, engine came out today!

...it looks like the compressor on the forward turbo is the culprit!

While I would love to just dump it in favour of a KKK...sorry....KKR setup, i need to pass this thing through regency once im done....that means standard turbos for you East-Enders!

So. long story short...whats the go?

....buy second hand CT12 units (and risk them being rooted too.

....rebuild the seals (anyone done this?)

....quick fix to get through regency then change over for KKR setup and get mod-plated?

Mate I have a set of CT12a's you can buy if you want. There's nothing wrong with them I had the same deal and I thought it was a turbo when it was valve stem seals. PM me if you're interested.

PM sent...by the way, has anyone had issues with PCV on these engines? just came from supraforums and apparently this can cause a fair amount of oil to pass through your inlet on startup...cure by catchcan

    ...anyone heard much on this?
