Arrow Urban myths & legends In QLD at least...

Ok, here is the G.O. for QLD... IMHO...

    Put a 2-TG/GEU in a 22 - No probs = No mod plate

3-T in a 22 - No probs = No mod plate (sold one and it passed a RWC and reg'od)
Weird exception but it passed - Merh?

    18-RG/GEU in a 23/28 = No mod plate

Old skool rules, is that if a car is produced as a "base" model with UPGRADES to

the TOP Model (even O/S) is that as long as the brakes/suspension is equivalent to the Fact. Specs no "Mod" plate is needed !

So if you're going to do a "factory" upgrade, don't get a blue plate until you have to.

Dunno if it's the case for the rest of Aus but don't get carried away with mod plates -
You might not need them !

Some of the above will depend on the workshop providing the safety certificate. THere is a lot of variability between workshops that issue safety certificates and mod plates ... not to mention officious Qld Transport staff.

As as rule: a change in the induction method (e.g. from carbi to EFI) requires a mod plate so putting a 2T-GE into a TA22 should include a mod plate but not if it's the 2T-G.

Another rule of thumb: you need to bring emissions control up to the year of the donor car (hence anything EFI needs a CAT and should have a charcoal canister for fuel vapour control, etc.).

A strict interpretation of Qld Tpt's guidelines suggests that you need a mod plate to convert a manual to an auto... but i've not known anyone to bother for a gearbox change.

Also - mod or blue plates are Qld specific. Other states require engineers reports, inspections, etc.

Thumbs down Re: Urban myths & legends In QLD at least...

One of the more nuttier mod plate doh's is if you mod plate a car for an engine swap and LATER put back in the original engine ANOTHER mod plate gets affixed to the car !

Do that a few times over 30 years and your engine bay will be a pretty blue..

why wouldn't you just pull off the 1st blue plate its only standard then. the mermaids can't complain about a standard car if it is original (carbon canister, cat, etc)
