yep, the Americans were the ones that got the drive by wire system... most likely some BS they installed for California emmissions.
Too many people get false 2ZZ-GE info off the yanks... at least false in relation to the rest of the world anyway.
The australian delivered 03-05's were all cable throttle.

damm newcelica.
live and learn.
i'm 99% sure thats what is actually wrong with this motor.. the guy we bought it off said that (the engine was hell cheap) which started the interest in the conversion..Originally Posted by Cuts

Anything end up happening with this? Damn interesting conversion!

nope.. my bro in law is too fu#king lazy to finish it.. i've even offered to finish it for him, just give me an blank signed cheque.. lol..
don't even know if it will ever get finished..
bribe him with promise of free boze at the end of each work day? works for my bro.
Wish I had a F#%ken awesome toyota.. saving for the goodness now.... stay tuned....
a really interesting conversion for sure. So that bellhousing is made from scratch? if so that impressive. Is there an angle between the throttles and the intake port inside?
yep, all from scratch
the plate where the itb's sit is verticle.. and the runners are on a 40ish deg bend down.. it's all ported inside the plate/runner join to help turn & tumble the air.. i havn't actually had too good a look down the intake ports of the 2ZZ, but there is a bit of a shape in the bowl and what kinda looks like a small short turn on the roof.. the floor of the ports are pretty flat right to the face of the valve..
i think thats where you were heading with that angle question
well I am impressed by the bellhousing fab, I mean I might be a bit neive here but I havent seen one thats complete made from scratch before.
Now I really dont like the idea of a 40 degree bend in there, I mean 7 degrees is the max thats normally an option before there are turbulent eddies and so on. Having the air "turn and tumble" might sound good but I think it will just screw up everything with a stack of turbulence. It would be such a waste to get everything else so right and then have that major restriction in the system.
the stock 2zz intake has some pretty big curves in it.. much like all inlet manifolds.. from what i've been talking about with my bro inlaw, i don't think this will ever get finished..
curves are ok, sudden changes in angle over 7 degrees are not. It would be a real pity to not have this project finished though.
oh yeh, it's not a shap bend by any means... it's ported like anything
yeh i know.. i should just pull the motor out of it and put it into my ae92.. lol..
oh ok neat.
Yeah a 2ZZ ae92, that would shock a few people!
who made the bell-housing. looks nice and I need one. cant be bothered trying to start from scratch
