Default 2JZ Front Sump Part Numbers

    Hi guys,

Couldn’t find any info for this in other posts, but just trying to order a front sump dipstick and guide from Toyota/Lexus and they are being a pain.

    Part Numbers from Interwebs
    Aristo/2JZ
    Dipstick: 15301-46022 ($26.75)
    Dipstick Guide: 11452-46010 ($30)

As they are Lexus numbers Toyota/Lexus require a VIN of the vehicle that its going into. Why they do this is beyond me, but I suppose its to track parts... kinda stupid. Prices are reasonable.

    So, question is,
-Has anyone bought these parts before and gotten around this issue?
I have considered pinching a VIN from ebay/for sales and using that.

-Is there alternate 1J/2J Toyota part numbers out there? I have looked but can't find squat and the TPC I have doesn’t have any info on it.

    Appreciate the help/info.

    Cheers
    Ben

    Hi,

Spare parts people always like a VIN so that they can confirm they are ordering the correct parts for that vehicle. Sometimes offering a build year is not enough as there may have been a production change, or two, part way through that year.

Just appropriate a VIN for the correct model from a friend, or elsewhere, and provide that along with a description of the parts you want to order to your friendly Toyota spare parts person. I do this and then cross reference the part numbers with the EPC to make sure I'm getting the right parts.

As a note I turned up that dipstick you listed belongs to a 92/09 - 95/08 Aristo. The matching guide is part number 11452-46090.

    Hope this helps,

    Pete.

    Ok, Cheers Pete.

I may just 'locate' a 'friends' Aristo VIN# then.

In any case, those after part numbers for a 2jz front sump dipstick & guide now can easily find then

I've never been asked for a VIN when I've given them a part number.

If you walk in and ask for a dipstick for a 93 Aristo, they'll ask for a VIN, but if you walk in and ask for 15301-46022 then they've always just ordered it for me.

I've asked for the parts by name and they've asked for the VIN. As above, it's purely to cover their arse so they don't order in the wrong part. Also as above though, when I've gone in there with a part number, the only time they've asked for a VIN was when the part had been superceded. Even then I just talked them into the most likely part.

Eh, I gave them the part #'s are they asked for the (a) VIN.
    Maybe its just the VIC's?

In any case, both are ordered, ex-japan

I work in the car parts industry and yes, asking for the VIN is so we can get the exact details of the vehicle in question. mechanics call and ask for a eg. air filter, to suit what ever the car may be and usually provide the VIN out of habit because they know how our system works, but when a customer calls and is lookin for a part we ask for the VIN number so that we get the right part first time.

The only variance in that may be a particular model of car came out with "options" on certain parts(usually minor like trims, mouldings, bumperbars, special edition vehicles etc) but the VIN will at least cover all the main "common" running gear in that particular vehicle. in saying that, customers call up and ask for a part number eg: abc123, we simply look the part number up and let them know if it is in stock, needs to be ordered etc..

If the part in stock has superceded we inform the customer at the time that it is the right part, just the numbers have changed. i personally think that its a great idea with the whole VIN setup, from a sellers point of view and a customers point of view.. just my 2cents...

Completely. they don't "need" the VIN for anything... just tell them you don't have a VIN due to engine sitting on the floor, but you just damn well want the part #

that will get you no where trust me, if u want your parts with minimal fuss, have a VIN handy, yeah it can be done without the VIN it just takes longer, we get the sh*ts coz we have to go through all the crap in the actual microcat to locate the car and the part ur lookin for, customer gets the sh*ts after waiting for 10 mins, everybody cranky, then again it depends on the customer

The joys of having a toyota trade account, they never ask for VIN numbers from me anymore.

Damn, ,didnt think that would case this much discussion.

Mr Toyota said he needed a VIN else, Lexus would not give him parts.
Mr Lexus wanted VIN to confirm part numbers were correct.

I guess being ex. Japan they need to make sure 100% you are getting what you want. I can understand it.
Funny thing is I am/was using a Toyota trade account
