URGENT!!! TA22 guages

I am in the middle of trying to get to the back of my gauges without breaking anything. The facier is almost out but seems to be stuck where the heater controls are. Can anyone tell me what needs to be done to get it all out, or provide a scanning of a workshop manual? Thanks!

Have you removed all the bolts holding the dash facier to its frame?

Have you removed all the screws which attach the control cables onto the side of the heater/blower motor?

Have you removed all the heater control cable ends from the control levers on the heater/blower motor?

If you have got all these removed then the best option is to reach under the dash and push up and side to side "gently" on the underside of the frame which locates the heater controls to the facier. Be carefull as it does not take much to break the heater control frame location points on the dash facier.

I have found that this heater control frame often fouls the edge of the dash facier frame and no amount of pulling will free it.

I have also found that dropping the steering column leaves a lot more room to play around with the back of the dash facier.

Yep, dropping the steering column is the way to go. Don't forget to disconnect the speedo cable before pulling the fasica out. You should be able to reach the back of the speedo with the fascia in place. It should only be finger tight,

you're saying you DIDN'T break anything while back there? i don't believe it.

There's 4 screws that are a PITA to get to behind the heater controls.. it's probably them stopping it (if you haven't got it already that is)

Hmmm maybe it was my feminine touch and yes people I did manage to get it out in one piece eventually. Not too happy with the work that the last person did to it though! And I really dont even know where to start with my problems now that I have it out! I am still no closer in solving why I have power on my fuse board for the gauges, but they dont work

well they do need to be grounded of course.. the tacho/oil/charge/fuel/temp/brake instruments all share a common ground in my RA23. perhaps the loop terminal has come loose and is now dangling in space? have you tested for continuity between the white/black ground wire on the back of one of the plugs and the chassis?

oh and i gave it my best feminine touch, it's just that in a lot of cases the plastics in my car were only held in place by the screw/bolt. once removed the surrounding area turned to dust

I know this is kinda dragging the thread off topic but how have u guys got the heater knobs and controls for the original radio off? I've fiddled with them but they wouldnt come out.
I admit i haven't tried for very long in the past....

Ace,

Heater control knobs are held on by screws underneath. Undo screws then pull them off.

Radio control knobs just pull off.

I would tend to agree with fuzz!

Your guage problem is probably a bad earth. There should be white/black wire coming out of the instrument cluster harness which bolts onto the back of the radio and then bolts to the car body low down at one of the blower motor mounting points.

You can check this connection without having the dash fascia fully installed.

See if this makes a difference.
