hey guys
ive got a jza80 W58 that has the remote style shifter position on it, and want to convert it over to a normal rear type shifter position....
now i have a complete rear type shitf box and the remote shidt box,
whats involved with swaping it all over?....do you have to swap the whole rear extension housing?
cheers, Blake

I did this a few years ago. It's not very hard, you basically pull both boxes apart and mix-and-match parts until it all fits together - it will be pretty straightforward once you've got it apart. I can't remember if I swapped the extension housing but you'll definitely need to take this off (both boxes) so it doesn't really make any difference.
You will need to drill and tap the selector shaft, this is the only "difficult" part of the conversion. Apart from that it's just swapping parts.

you must keep the extension housings with there respective boxes as 1 bearing in the jza 80 box is bigger than the early ones .

out of curiosity, what's the "remote style" shifter position? got a pic?

in 05 nt, about to do the same thing was it hard?
I use a jzx90 (same as z30) box in my jzx81 and i was planning on swapping it over to make it come up in stock location, you will need to swap extension housings, the little shift liver that the shifter pushes into then the obvious stuff all external.Originally Posted by slipway
I have also been informed of jzxproject that a bloke who tried it had nothing but trouble, one of the reasons why i stuck with the remote shifter.

hmmmmm in theory doesnt seem that difficult just fiddly and time consuming getting it back together. I would love to keep the extension housing but i feel in a ma61 it will be too far back to be comfortable. oh an my other box is a w57 but that really shouldnt matter.
blinky how are you going to swap extension housings? as stated above isnt the later w58 fitted with some bigger bearings?
jzx9 is a r154 not w series, as far as i know it doesnt matter but it may be the reason why someone said they had a prick of a time getting it to work?
