92 brake upgrade thread
(edited)
Hey guys
I've just put a set of 258x22mm rotors (S2 SX/GTi) on my AE82 and was looking for calipers to suit.
I was looking for the S2 SX/GTi calipers but haven't been able to find any. I spent some time in the wreckers looking for an alternative and an SV21 caliper does the trick perfectly.
Cheers

Thanks, but yes I've already reviewed that thread in detail (about eleventy twelve times). The thread doesn't mention anything about the AW11 calipers or other options that may work with these particular rotors.Originally Posted by wagonist
In fact that thread is why I bought these discs, assuming I could get grab a set of the S2 SX/GTi calipers but now that I've got the discs I haven't been able to find any at the wreckers, or fina a private sale pair that aren't ridiculously priced.
As such I'm looking at other options for calipers that will suit the brand new rotors I've already purchased.
I figure with Toyota's predictability there'll be something out there that bolts on perfectly... I'd been told that the AW11 front calipers might do the trick but as they're not the most common thing I can't just duck into a wrecker and try bolting a set onto the nearest AE82 to make any measurements.
On the weekend I'll try a few Celica calipers and see if there's anything I can sort out.

No probs. If you were down here, I'd give you the front Calipers that came off my last Caldina to trial.
single spot floating to suit a 256mm rotor. Only been on a car for 7 years (been off it for even longer to may require a seal kit)
they have different part numbers listed.. i would have thought aw11 brakes would be harder to find than ae92/ae93 brakes.
That's what I figured, but I haven't been able to find any as yet. As the calipers I want were only on the very late series SX/GTi models I guess there wasn't a particularly large model run.
I've found zero sets of the Corolla calipers in two weeks, and two sets of the MR2 calipers in one day... it's good to know the part number is different but if we're only talking a couple of millimetres offset or something then it doesn't really matter.

Can anyone provide these three measurements for an AW11 and an AE82?
This will answer the question quite convincingly![]()

Problem solved!
100% stock AE82 suspension/hubs/caliper mounts/brake lines/etc, using DBA708 rotors (Series 2 SX/GTi @ 258x22mm vented) and SV21 Camry Calipers & Pads. The only other thing that will need to be changed/modified is the backing plate which can be removed, replaced, or bent to accomodate the larger rotor. The caliper itself will clear it fine.
Came up really well; yet to drive the car as I have to bleed the brakes but that's a job for tomorrow! Don't forsee any clearance issues or anything, but I can't report for sure until I drive it tomorrow.

Bled the brakes yesterday, came up a treat. Can feel the bias is out a little now so I'll do something with the rears soon, but it stops like a dream!
They also look really good![]()
