I like the idea of it being used to discuss club goings on but also agree it should be made avaliable to the general public.

As for threads like help Josh rip out a 7M. If done right you good do it in a public area. i.e don't give out info til people pm you etc.

    So I supose I'm undecieded.

    hmmm... true....
myself personally im not really comfortable with inviting the general public to come around and help remove the crown's 1uz (example only)... you are going to get a whole bunch of randoms pm'ing asking to come around who you dont know/dont want to come around and then mates of mates etc etc.... whom you then have to be nice to and say "sorry mate, i dont want you coming around with your cousin habib and his mates Tourek and Youseff to case my joint"....

I dunno, this is just my personal view. I've had to deal with similar situations before, and unfortunately some people take a rejected offer the wrong way.

The forums have grown far beyond the clubs original expectation but there purpose is still the same now as it was then.

There intention has always been to benefit the Clubs financial members and encourage a wider toymods community. To this end we have kept them as a free service and moderate them accordingly.

As we all areas of the club financial members get that little bit extra, which is why we have the Members ride section for financial members. It allows us to let other club members know what we are up to without revealing to all and sundry what we have, how much we spent and where we park it !

The members ride section fills this spot really well in my opinion and is the place you can ask for help with a conversion or that sort of activity. If you WANT the general public to help then post it in General car talk, financial members have that choice.

To have a section for idle chat and shooting the breeze that is for members only is just not the intention and personally it detracts from what the club is all about. We want a wider community not a high and mighty inner sanctum. In saying that tho there is and always has been a members only mailing list.

    Thats my thoughts anyway

Rod - surprisingly you are saying exactly what i am thinking, and was originally asking if it was ok to do.

I just wanted to see if you guys were ok with members posting the occasional "members only" conversion lend-a-hand/move-a-house etc etc. You are, so I am happy, and I think this is the way it should stay.

I think having the ability to ask for help such as you mentioned in a club member's only environment will certainly promote a greater club atmosphere IMO.
Im not saying that we encourage and promote the club members rides section for those sorts of threads, only that we should allow them as you suggested.

There was no real need to clarify, i just wanted to give a little reason and justification to my thoughts and opinions.

sooo.... when do these forums go live?

    # Help Jooorsh rip out his 7M this weekend..
In my opinion, these questions could be asked in the General Car Talk section. The last one could be in (eg) Jooorsh's Member's ride thread if it wasn't to be known by non financial members.

I don't think we should have any more Financial Members only sections apart from this.

I disagree with you on that one Steve and agree with Toobs and Karl.

I know its meant to be for member rides but, if I need as hand on my car etc it ain't going up in general area cause I don't want every man and his dog rocking up.

It easier and cheaper just to ask in the members only area.

But you don't have to let them know in the thread where they have to go. You only send a PM to those you want to come.
Maybe say that in the thread: "This is not an open invitation, but I need help with... I'll send a PM to those coming"
This may upset some people, but tough, our car's are a valuable item.

well i know what way i will be doing it... and it certainly wont be in general car talk.

In my beliefs this is in the best interests of our financial members, as it gives them greater freedom to grow their social connections with the other members of the CLUB without the fears commonly associated with openly advertising what you are getting up to in the garage.

Looking at it from our persective steve, we already have that network of social connections and so such a freedom is not necessary for us (board members and long time regulars).... but to some of the newer and younger members, they dont have that network with the more experienced guys. I think allowing these sorts of posts will help develop that networking within the club and harbour a better club atmosphere.

To further strengthen that point, it's something which we advertise as an integral part of the club -> "conversions".

Rod's thoughts are completely in synch with mine here:
The members ride section fills this spot really well in my opinion and is the place you can ask for help with a conversion or that sort of activity. If you WANT the general public to help then post it in General car talk, financial members have that choice.

Anyway, I really dont expect there to be that many posts of this nature anyway!!

I think I'm getting a bit confused here.

Witzl, you're reading Rod's statement as saying its ok to ask for physical help with car conversions, etc in the Financial member's Ride section, but that it's not ok for just general chat. Is this how you're thinking?

    Stupid English language...

Yeah I assumed that Rod meant to ask for help within your cars threads in financial members rides... not to make new threads all the time.
I still think a seperate forum would be better and being members only I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to make sure people didn't over use it.

No you both have it backwards.

I am saying that it is ok for members to occasionally post "conversion help, etc" threads in the financial members rides section if they dont want the general public reading it - a new section is not necessary.

Hmm... I don't know, sounds a bit messy.
I still reckon a seperate section would be better.
