    Default CAMS stuff

    Hey guys

I am considering joining a club for CAMS purposes.

I did a search and found an old thread saying that Toymods is not CAMS affiliated, can someone confirm if there is any update to the situation?

I can just go and join some other random club, but that seems a little backwards.

    Correct

Many people for competition licenses join a local affiliated club, I am a member of Wagga Wagga and Distrcit Car Club for those purposes.

Depending on direction of Toymods and where they see the club going, affiliation is not difficult, just a matter of parting with some $$$ depending on membership size of the new club.

If the Club sees it self as a motor sport club as well as an group of like minded Toyota fans, I fel this would be a suitable step forward.

but with only (or less than?) 100 toymods club members, it makes the cost part very difficult.
joining a motorsport oriented club is far more efficient that toymods becoming CAMS affiliated for a few people that want the option.
it may be a good move in future, but the number of active club members is not high enough to warrant the expense (afaik)

Just an FYI if the executive was not aware, affiliation with CAMS is on a sliding basis based on club numbers.

See the Club site on CAMS - http://www.cams.com.au/Sport/Club%20Zone.aspx

The affiliation form is there, you will find it is financially viable for small clubs, we have less than 50 members and have no issues with cost, it is pretty low considering.

But again, only if this is a direction that Toymods feels it want to offers its financial members.

are there 50 members (half of the club) who want or need CAMS membership?

    1-40 members = $264
    40-100 = $462

while it is only an extra $5 for every member... not every member wants to go to CAMS events...

unless toymods starts to organise its own motorsports events (outside of track days currently done) and then it might be worth it... but will people turn up?

I don't think its just a cost thing though. The whole administration becomes even more of a nightmare. As it is toymods is close to a full time job for some of the board in terms of trying to filter through forum applications, moderate the forum & fulfil membership packs.

Do they really want more load on top of that of having the paperwork associated with CAMS licenses as well.

Each state probably has close to 100 or more CAMS affiliated car clubs so is it really necessary for Toymods which is a social club & doesn't run motorsport events to become Cams affiliated. I'd be getting my license through the club that runs the events I regularly attend as more often then not they then offer discounted entry.

I guess the thing is, I'm not a financial member of Toymods... and personally I see no benefit in it. I don't need to join a club for social reasons, I have plenty of friends. But, I'm looking at doing some CAMS stuff in the next year or so and figured I'm better to join a relevant club, but if not I'll just go join the Mini Car Club or something.

    Hi,

I think there is also some agreement we must have with CAMS whenever we hold any event, even if it is not for racing - such as car shows and cruises, etc.

I remember we looked into it before and it was these extra stipulations where we needed CAMS approvals or something that was required if we wanted to do anything. And, as Rona said, it was extra work for little pay back or advantage.

In any event, I have put in a call to CAMS and they will call me back and I'll ask these questions and things. I am doing this for my own education and therefore does not mean the Club is becoming CAMS certified or whatever.

you mean like people "joining" toymods just for the CAMS membership and then never turning up to toymods events?
maybe if it was cheaper than the 11ty billion other CAMS affiliated clubs

but wouldn't it be better to join a club that ran many official CAMS sanctioned track days and events? unless you are volunteering to be the event organiser?

no i don't mean people joining specifically for the cams membership but if that was a benefit of the membership maybe there would be people that are at the moment only forum members and are a member of another club for the cams membership would just become toymods members instead.....

and if we were a CAMS club wouldn't it be easier and more beneficial then for there to be more track days and events?

    its just a thought.

and no i wouldn't know where to start to begin organizing events like this, but with the way the stitts cruises have been going lately maybe he should be

CAMS has been looked at and does loom in the Clubs plans However, to even concider going further, there are many things that need to fall into place first. We are still concentrating on the Historic rego to make sure it is happening smoothly.

In short, don't hold your breath on Toymods becomming CAMS affiliated in the short term.

Most people I know just find the cheapest club on the CAMS affiliation list and join it. It is only a means to an end so it doesn't matter which club it is! When I was on the ASSA NSW (Australian Sports Sedan Association NSW) committee we used to get lots of applications to join as we only charged a small membership fee but these people never turned up to any event.

    Cheers,

    Peter
