Stupid Bloody Power Windows!
I needed somewhere to whinge.
Today's experience has put me right off ever having power windows in a car. My rear passenger window went down but didn't come back up again. Being a Sunday this was a problem. To cut a long story short the main window switch console is stuffed and apparently Toyota don't even stock these new although I have a suspicion that Lexus might if I can find the right part number.
Luckily I was able to find a central locking guy who happened to be opened because he was working on a customer car and we jumped the switch with a mini 12 volt battery to get the window up again.

if the motor(s) were starting to slow down (particularly when the engine is not running) pull the switch unit apart (may require some surgery) and clean the contacts.

Same thing happened to my father in law's camry.
Toyotas = great engines, hopeless everything else

Just an update. The switch was fine. The main problem was the bundle of wires in the driver door through to the rest of the car was old and crap. Things work now that I didn't even realise was broken like when you lift the outside door handle the interior light comes on.
Also apparent the circuit breaker in one of the motors was stuffed.

Re: Stupid Bloody Power Windows!
If your car is so old, there of course would not be much chance Toyota actually have them in stock. No one stocks things hoping in 10+ years time that it'd break or something. Not that it's a common problem. Warehousing cost would be horrendous and of course you'll pay top dollar for a brand new item.
