Noone got any ideas huh?
Hey guys im nearing the stage of sorting out the front suspension for my RA23 its got a Twin turbo 1UZFE Tremec TKO600 hilux diff and big brakes. Its going to have a full interior with stereo ETC and is going to be a mainly (hopefully comfortable) street car with the occasional circuit jaunt and weekend drag racing at the strip. My question is what spring rates could those of you that no anything about this suggest to me as a good all round weight spring for the front and rear of my car.
For the rear im looking for two suggestions as im planning on running a hole different diff at the drags with different ratio brakes diff head etc. So i was wondering what would be a good rate for street and circuit. And what would be a good rate for squatting and launching drag racing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Let me know if anymore information is needed and ill try get it![]()

what are the weight splits?vs weight splits of stocker..

Im not certain exactly but judging by the "lightness" of the 1UZFE but the extra weight of turbos etc TKO600 it would be a bit more weight in the front, but with the bigger diff and battery in the boot etc there will be more weight on the back. So the weight split will probably be pretty similar to standard just a bit heavier on both ends i think.

well.. i was thinking more along the lines of....
if you could corner weight it with solid tube instead of springs, and then compare the weights to a car wiith known springs, that handles like you want for the stuff you wanna do, then you can extrapolate for your weight...

Wellthat sounds fairly complicated but yep could probably do that it would just mean my suspension is the very last thing i can do after my car is finished and i wasnt really keen to wait that long. Maybe ill just get some 300s for the front and 200s for the back and see how i go if i dont like it ill just have to by another pair. Only $150 so not too bad really.

how much heavier is it compared to a 1j? i would look into something like the coilovers that jase (smokey228) is running in his 23
also how heavy is an 18rg (as it is cast) cos i have some aftermarket springs from when i had that motor
id look for 350-400lbs front springs and 200-250 rear sprngs but i like my suspension responsive and firm, it also depends on what dampers you run and how they are valved.
why would you want it to squat for drag racing? worst thing you could ask for really.
corner weighting is pointless if you havn't measured how much of it is sprung vs unsprung, ie your diff is unsprung but your battery will be sprung weight (at least id hope so)

Linden.
When you say "firm and responsive" does this translate to bumpy and uncomfortable on the street or would you happily take it on a long distance trip?
I also mean just squatting on the launch not when the veicle is stationary. The plan is to have it higher in the back than with my street springs etc. Except ill be running 90/10 shocks and (presumably) softer springs to get the arse squatting and launching no? Lol and yes battery will be sprung weightlol
Cheers for your input guys. Much appreciated.

Drag racing you normally run 90/10's front and 50/50 rears so the front lifts and the rear sits down. hats the bogan approach though so things may be a little more advanced in the import field.

Ok sorry i must have mis understood lol. i didnt look into it that hard as i havent even started on the rear suspension. I must be seriously mucked up here somewherebecause i always thought getting the rear of a car to squat down on launch (presumably transferring weight to the rear) was the way to go for drag racing. Lol it looks like i might have to have a real good talk with someone that knows what they're doing before i make any drastic decisions about things.
Still just looking for recomendations on spring rates. Looking at 23s with 1js in them they seem to be running 300lb springs which i think will probably close to what i want because 1jz and 1uz are fairly similar in weight are they not?

How much road use are you looking at?
What are the quality of the roads you'll be driving on like?
Do you like your suspension to feel on the firm side?
Would you prefer a more supple ride?
Would you prefer the setup to be track day biased, with road use only a secondary consideration (as you'll have a separate drag setup)?

Hi mate,
I have coilovers with 300lb front springs in my ra28.
I havent driven it with the 1j, but did drive it with the 1g, which would probably be pretty simmilar to your weight.
I love it... the front end felt so much more controlled with the coilovers, and seems to absorb the bumps well well.
I have adjustable koni inserts. I had these shocks with my previous king springs, and the difference changing to the coilovers was huge.
Heaps more comfy and more controlled - best of both worlds.
I haven't had mine on the track with this set up and i am by no means a suspension guru...
Cheers
Stew
Ps, i should add that i also fitted camber tops at the same time.
