    Default [SYD] BT 4AGE head service

    Hi,

    taken the car down to togue tune and its been diagnosed that the head needs to be reshimmed/overhauled, apparently the lifters are loose.

    so i'm looking for a place which you have used and would recommend

    he just did the head for my little holden combo van and really looked after me.

    pretty much any good machine shop should be able to do the job for you with no probs not sure on cost though i had a 4age head done bout 2 years back cost me around 500 or so from memory

    why dont you just work out the shims required and get them if thats the only problem if your near me i can help and teach u how to do it at the same time

    i assume that involves opening the actual head ?
    where abouts are you ? my PMs don't seem to work, so preferable to discuss here

    i'm in parra but work in castle hill but can travel depending on how far

    it all depends on wat wrong
    if its just the shims and there isn't too much clearance then you only have to take the rocker cover and cams off.

    I'll bet it's your intake cam pulley causing the excessive valvetrain noise.

    You test it by energising the VVT solenoid with 12V while the engine is sitting a bit above idle (so it doesn't stall) If the rattle/clacking noise goes away when it's engergised then it's time for a new VVT intlet pulley.

    To energise the solenoid, get two wires. one to chassis ground and the other to 12V.

    thanks JP, yeah another BT owner showed me how and it turns out to be the VVT pulley, so i'm going to disable VVT altogether and stick on a set of TODA cams
