Wink best cheap upgrades for stock 1GGTE?

    Hey ppl.

We just finished putting a W58 manual box into my bro's GZ20 soarer GT and the stock engine is just begging for more power.

Ive done a little reading and there seem to be ppl running up to 21psi on stock intake and internals, WTF?!

We are new to the 1G and just really want to know what common setups that ppl are running.

    ie
-Whats a safe boost level to bleed to with factory setup (factory FMIC, ecu etc)
-Whats the best bang for buck? (aftermarket FMIC + bleeder valve + SAFC?)

Any info or thread links would be appreciated

Think you have covered most of it mate,

Intake, exhaust, fmic, safc and boost...maybe getting those pipes from the afm to the turbo custom made to flow more air and flow them smoother!

My bro ran 22psi through standard internals, only for a few days, turbos start losing efficiency after 16-17psi..

boost cut is always a problem and from wat i remember kicks in around 16psi....expect to see about 200rwhp from the above mods at around 14 psi, maybe more if your in luck and have a good motor!

Hi, is Brendan your brother? In the Yellow z20?

12 PSI is safe on the stock Cooler i'd say, as it's fairly restrictive, so no point running above that if you've got a restrictive cooler.

With Gen 2 1g-gte's boost cut comes in at around 14 PSI, ways to avoid this would be to tighten the spring on the AFM by a notch or two.

Replace the restrictive cooler with something bigger, doesn't have to a 600 x 300 x 100 but something decent will do. Try get a intercooler that has a shorter height, otherwise there will be fitment problems in the z20 with it getting in the way of the P/S tubes.

The 1g-gte's run very rich, so getting a fuel controller such as the SAFC to lean out the mixtures will give a good gain.

Once you have a larger front mount, 14 PSI is safe. Above that the stock CT12's lose their efficiency so no point going above 14 PSI.

Get a medium sized cooler from Just Jap for about $150 plus postage, about $200 Delivered to you, Buy a bleed valve from Flying Performance for $20, and get yourself a Boost Guage. That will be the best bang for your buck.

Fit a bigger cooler then boost it to 18psi on a dyno to check afrs.
If you keep stock twins get the roadrunner dump pipes, make a big difference, my 1ggte did 140rwkw stock boost and just dump pipes.

Then replace with a 1jz when its still not enough power ;-)

Hey... i ran 24psi on mine.. for a bit..

the z20 is heavy for the 1g though... but for now, FMIC, bleed valve, some form of management, and if you run enough boost.. 7mgte injectors... but youll need management.

also, let me know if you want those front hubs and calipers for it.. still sittin around at Adams..

For the record i made 276rwhp on 16psi... ct26, SAFC, cooler, exhaust..

Taking fuel out of the car with an SAFC will raise your boost cut point.. so its a good investment..

also.. WTF happened to ya rep...

I know he used to have a bit, but i think some shit happened when he was trying to sell his bro's Pulsar..

dunno full story, but every twat and their dog always seems to jump on the neg rep bandwagon when someone has low rep..

Bayka is a good bloke... but a fool for selling the pictured corolla...

It was a highflow ct26 with garrett internals.. on a crappy home made manifold
    SAFC,
    Cam gears.. not really adjusted..
600x300x76 FMIC, home made cooler pipes
home made 3" straight thru exhaust.. 1 muffler..
50mm egay external gate.. with screamer..
apart from that it was stock..

i would have run more boost but at the time my bleed valve shat itself and it was just running off gate spring.. internal gate was welded shut..

P.S sorry for the sort of off topic crap..

    Hi,

I'm running about 12/13 PSI in my z20 and it's quite punchy once the turbo's kick in, but if you want good off the line acceleration, there is not much you can do with the 1g.

Its not punchy, the z20 is a fat whale and the 1g is always going to be underpowered for the car.

haha, thanks for the comments guys.

Yes my bro is Brendan and it is/was a yellow soarer. We are half way to spraying it black.

Neg rep: ah yes, moderators...my bro blew is sr20de pulsar i tried to sell it on toymods. Call me crazy I know, rules rules rules

With 276rwhp the mz20 would not be a whale, more like a sunfish.

Jurek - yep we will take all your spare soarer shit, and your safc
