Good tip mate
Just wanted to share a discovery I made today.
I've been searching for an alternator to replace the stuffed one in my 85 AW11 MR2 with a 4AGE, so I went down to my local wreckers and had a scrounge the through alternator racks. Low and behold the alternator out of an 85 Honda Civic was an exact match except for the pulley. So $50 later and i'm off to my local mechanic to get the pulleys swapped over (I don't have a rattlegun at home). When I first fitted the 4AGE pulley it fouled on the Honda housing and would not spin. This was easily fixed by putting a small washer behind the pulley.
So in summary if your looking for a repalcement alternator for your 4AGE the 85 Honda Civic alternator was a direct interchange, even the plug was the same. And if you can get them for $50 they're cheaper then the toyota equivelants!
Cheers,
Matt

I found an integra *X model(will find out for you all)* to be an almost exact match for a 4agze, minus the pulley and it required a spacer behind the pivoting end of it.. got me out of trouble since there is next to nothing available second hand for them.
Some Honda engines rotate in the opposite direction ,so be care buying Honda alternators
It will charge either way its spun the only thing that will differ is the cooling fan, that being said your either gonna drag air out of it (correct direction) and ones gonna try to push air back through it.
