the t series bearing in oz is about $100, and most times there a bastard.
heat and a press gets them off. (heat will kill the bearing but i normaly replace them anyway)
with the lock ring, i usualy chisel them off.
it wont be expensive to get a shop to do it.

yeh its crazy, probably becuase its a pretty big bearing.

go to an engineering bearing shop with one of the old bearings

please, no more PMs!
Yeah absolute waste of time trying to swap the bearings. The bearing collar will need to be cut with a 1mm cutting disc on an angle grinder. Without going all the way through, and being very carefull not to cut into the axle. You then use a cold chisel to snap the collar open. Use a hydraulic press to press off the old bearing and collar. Press new bearing on, heat collar with oxy and then drop it onto the shaft.
So if you do not have the tools and equipmentm get a shop to do it. Any differential repair shop will do it for you. They will also be able to supply the bearing and collar, along with the new axle seal you will need. The whole lot comes as a kit. You would be a mug not to replace the seal while the axle is out for bearing replacement.

don't use a oxy for heating, a oven or bar radiator will give sufficant heat.
Bit hard when you only want to heat the inner race of the bearing.Originally Posted by Silly75gt
I agree that cutting them off carefully is the easiest way to get them off.

The heat is only required on the retaining collar, not necessary on the bearing.

Maybe the huge disc T series bearings are $100 a pop, but I've paid 30-40 for the standard Aus bearings several times.
And it's a job I can't be arsed doing. So the guy down the street gets a six pack and bearings get changed.
