ps.
ive looked at the 'definitive classic celica guide' as well.
Hey Guys
ive done a fair bit of searching on this with no real distinct answer.
im about to purchase some 15" BBS (not sure rim width) , +26mm offsets.
the tires on it are 195/50s all round.
i dont have a problem with the rears, as i already have 15"'s with a large pos. offset and they fit fine (which it had a tad more track, but thats the price you pay for all these new rims not fitting old skool designs).
the problem i have is:
with my fronts im worried that it wont fit (ie. scrub on the strut tower).
ive done abit of measuring, and its touch and go... (i have the stock struts)..
i am also about to convert to ra2x struts on the front... will this fit?
it feels a tad too much of an offset on the front, what do you guys think?

15" rims 7" wide 0 offset and 195/45 rubber fits on the front with stock struts. It only rubs on the firewall on full lock on the very edge of the tyre and can be fixed with a bit of hammer loving so I'd say you'll be fine
yours are 0mm offsets..
therefore, yours will need to be (tires = 195 / 2) = 97.5mm exactly (15" * 25.4 + (45% of 195) ) = 468mm above your hub centre.
mine would be:
(tires = 195 / 2) = 97.5mm (+ 26) exactly (123mm) (15" * 25.4 + (50% of 195) ) = 478mm above my hub centre.
mine is not even gonna make it without hitting the strut!
are my calculations correct?

Stock is +32 offset with 165 tyres. So the center of your wheel will be 6mm further out, but your tyres are 15mm wider either side.
edges of the tyre will be 9mm further inboard, and 21mm further outboard.
IIRC, there is more than 9mm clearance on the inside to spare, so you should be OK.
Some more info on this forum...
http://www.toymods.net//forums/showthread.php?t=46399
stock for 22' is +27. on 165s
so wouldnt that be 1mm further out?
15mm either side.
15mm - 1mm = 14mm more than stock tire on strut side...
and 16mm less on street side?
btw. good name, tim

and stock size is 13"
this all happens 2" up the strut a little more?
thoughts?

oh damn, i missed the bit about your car being a TA22. I forgot there is non-RA28 model![]()
Type the sizes into this site:
http://www.rims-n-tires.com//rt_specs.jsp
...and it'll tell you where the differences are.
Because you are using 50-profile 15" tyres, the diameter should still be similar to the stock 13".
mate your a gem
that is a mad site.
i wish i knew the width of the rim...that would help.

yeah, it's pretty cool huh?
the rim width only really matters if it's wider than the tyre. so with a 195 tyre, anything up to 7.5" shouldn't affect the clearance. (ie: it'll be the tyre that hits something, not the rim)
14mm closer to suspension.
whats that, half an inch more than stock wheels...
but its 2" up the strut...might hit the lower perch.
might have to get my spacers on.
and do that ra2x conversion earlier.
will that fix my problems?

i dunno how much clearance stock wheels have on the inside... 14mm might be OK.
it's not quite 2" further up the strut... the overall diameter only changes 33mm, so 17mm further up the strut.
If it doesn't fit... do the RA conversion then![]()
i have 15x7 +25's with 205/50s on there with 2x3mm spacers the only JUST clear the strut
edit: i dont think your specs for the stocko tyres are right, i thought stockers were 195's profile escapes me, but 205/50/R15s are a pretty close match IIRC
skiddz, i dunno about 22's, but stock 28's are 165... i doubt 22's are any wider.
They had pretty skinny cheese cutters back then![]()
