    Default l98 in to a ma61

hey guys... ive had a few cars in the past starting with

    skyline r32
    ra60 celica
    r32 GTR
    Audi a4 quattro...

they were all entry eveel mods except for the GTR... now i seem to think ive done okay, and throughout owning all these cars.. im sure not just me but everyone has thought about engine conversions!!!

to be honest with you guys im fucking scared to do this... only coz i have no idea about where to even begin... and i know its good if your mechanically minded but i am not... but i want to learn...

so im selling my audi and ill have just over about 10 grand...

now i found a red ma61 in canberra from a guy names paul... not sure if its in good nick (if any of you have info on this car please let me know... to make it distinct it has a good stereo and its red)

anyway under 3 grand for that... so ill have money left over

now at holmart.com.au theres the l98 engine which is out of the holden VE SS's... for around or under 4 grand.. BRAND NEW!!!

i aint quite sure what im asking here... but what do i need to do to go about it.. like just the simple things that u think one would know... but i dont to be honest...
engine mounts? i really need someone who wants to help me out with this project! and yes i want it to be engineered and signed off!... im a boilermaker so fixing things and fabricating thigns wouldnt be an issue... althogh im a 3rd year apprentice the guys at work are able to help... anyway im in melbourne.. if theres any info or like conversion kits you guys know if that i can buy or something please thats the kinda info im asking for
    thanks in advace

Before this thread goes any further, can you afford to spend $15,000 on this project ?

Mate you would be better off buying the MA61 in the classifieds and transferring that into a decent shell. Anyway if you don't do this then you are better off buying a crashed whole car and starting from there. I haven't looked into it but I reckon that is just a bare engine from holmart and you will need accessories, wiring loom, ecu and a host of other things you will get from a complete car and then sell off what you don't want. Calculate how much it will cost you as it might be a bit surprising and when you have a figure from that, double it and this is what it will likely cost you. To be honest it doesn't sound like you are ready for a conversion like this at this stage. The wiring alone will be a nightmare and if you can't do it yourself it will cost a fortune as trying to mate Holden stuff to Toyots stuff is a lot harder than straight Toyota to Toyota. I hope I haven't rained on your parade but you need to know what you're letting yourself in for. If you're still keen, build it take lots of pics and put a thread up on here and we'll all love you.

Next question, do you really want to spend that much given it'll be worth SFA of the outlay when you're finished?

hey very useful info, and yes im ready i know its going to be a bulk costing machine and worth nothing in the end... as for wiring, i have no idea but my dads friend will do it.. he rewired my whole audi for 500 bucks!... and anything with audi = $$$

my friend will help me on the engine side of things.. like what i need to get etc... havent decided on how to fit it all up.. or where to do it!!! i was also thinking buying a stocker and completly stripping it and making sure the body is rust free and in awesome condition! (i can do that bit as i work with steel, guysfrom work will help) i know its going to cost plenty... but its about time. im earning decent money... so i think nows the time to atleast start!

Engine mounts will be a walk in the park for you. Wirring would be a pain.

Have you decided what box are you going to use?

I can't speak for this particular place but generally these are bare, or at least partially bare, crate motors. So, they often may come with no wiring, no accessories, no ECU, missing some little bits and pieces like engine dress covers, etc.

I can't see an engine & box combo costing you less than $10k package.
Must.... avoid.... urge... to... upgrade... parts I haven't.... used.... yet.....

I can't agree more, seriously, just slap this big hunker motor into a better shell (the red one with the stereo as you say, if it's good) and you'll save heaps and have an EPIC motor in choice looking car
