Default Skid pan day - Sunday 10 May 2009 morning session.

Ok ladies and gents the poll has spoken and we are locked in for Sunday 10th of May 2009 for an AM session at the Sutton Driver training Centre Skid Pan .

    When is it? Sunday 10 May 2009 - 8:30am to ~12:30pm

Where? Sutton Driver Training Centre, Canberra ACT (see link for map)

How many people are attending? We'll have 10 spots available.

How much? $110 each, payable up front to secure your place.

What if I pay and then can't make it? We'll start a reserves list once the 10 places are filled, in the event of illness, mechanical breakdown of your pride and joy etc. your place will be given to a reserve and your money refunded once they pay, if there are no reserves to take your place it is up to you to find someone to take your spot. I think that's fair? Let me know if it's not ok with you PRIOR to paying

Other info: these days are great fun and not very taxing on your car at all, you also learn a lot about your car and car control too.

How to pay and get your name on the list:

    1. Check with your diary/girlfriend/boyfriend/wife/partner/parole officer and ensure the date and time suits you.

    2. Send me a PM asking for the deposit details (if I have already sent you a PM then send me a reply stating that you are transferring funds), your name will then be added to the list. Use your Toymods log-in as the deposit description so I know who sent it. I am happy to take payments in person in Civic during business hours, PM me to arrange a time.

    3. Once your deposit clears “Paid” will be noted beside your name and your spot is secured. Once 10 people have paid a reserves list will start, no payment is required to be on the reserves list, payment will only be required if a place becomes available.

Please note: getting your name on the list does not secure your spot until it has “Paid” noted beside it, so don’t put your name down and then hold off paying, if there are other people wanting your spot you’ll be shuffled down the list.

The list of attendees, their vehicle type and location:

    1. Shane - KE25 - Canberra (Paid)
    2. KE38-4agte- KE38 - Queanbeyan (Paid)
    3. Gaz - Forrester GT - Canberra (Paid)
    4. 1JZ-Rolla - 1JZ AE71 - Canberra (Paid)
    5. Sam - WRX - Canberra
    6. SL666 - 1JZ Hilux - Canberra (Paid)
    7. Millsy - WRX STi - Sydney (Paid)
    8. Squid - GT4 - Canberra (Paid)
    9. Ness - AW11 - NSW (Paid)
    10. Roundy - GT4 - NSW (Paid)

    Reserves list:

This event will be open to anyone and any vehicle type, so if you have a mate, friend or enemy who would like to come along that'll be fine.

If you have any further questions etc just send me a PM or ask in this thread.

    Cheers

Sounds really interesting and since nothing is happening up here and my car is no where ready to see a proper track day, i may make the trip down for this (after confirmation from the powers at home...)

Anyway, will we require helmets for this and apart from probably the usual long sleeve/pant combination is anything else required? So i take it that 5th gear would be organising the 'activities' - what should we expect in regards to course layout, any changes during the day and also instruction?

And sincei would be travelling, i also wouldnt mind if people wanted to meet up for something to eat before the PM one or after the AM one (if there isnt going ot be any at the event).

zop - just regular driving attire, no helmets needed. The instructor jumps from car to car giving you pointers through out your sessions. Layout will be the standard course viewable on their website, IIRC.

Be good to have you along, just keep an eye on the thread next week and see what date we settle on. More than happy to incorporate a cruise to somewhere to get a feed before or after depending on which session we go with.

    Don't need a helmet.

Being May in Canberra long sleeve/pants is a good idea anyway.

Yep, 5th gear run the session which basically involves time out on the "course". They provide tuition i.e. Dereck sits in the passenger seat and provides instruction or you can just do it on your own, they are pretty easy going in that regard.

I've attached a few Youtube links below to show what the place looks like:

    Some Subies on the pan

    Soarer on the pan

It'll either be 8 or 10 drivers Nathan, it's fine to share a car though, you'll get the same amount of time as anyone else.

    Cool

Ness and I will both come

10th probably suits better as it is in the morning, gives more time to get home.

inner line of the track where most of the water is very low impact. outer track is grippy and if you spend your time out there it will wear some tyres.
However due to the amount of actual time you will spend on the track any wear will be very very low.

About as harsh as a cruise to the corner shop.

Serisouly though the only strain your car will see is if you have poor throttle control and rev the shit out of it with the wheels spinning, other than that it's about as stressed as a normal drive.

Tyre wear is pretty much nil too.

I drove a gutless AWD Impreza wagon last time and it coped fine - it loved the handbrake .
