chances are the sloor is not very strong there.
any chance you can weld or bolt to the front leaf mounts?
unless you are doing some serious suspension things, a rear bar may be the last thing you need![]()
Hey all,
Just seeking some educated opinions on welding custom swaybar mounts directly to the floor pan of a KE1x under the rear seat?
I've already done it so its a bit late now, but there is a little bit of flex due to the thin sheet metal they're welded too (only minimal). Just trying to work out if its worth strengthening it up a bit more or if people have done this in the past and have had no issues?
Would post a photo but cant work out how too!

photo... host them at photbucket or similar (or if they are small enough, add as attachment on the post reply screen (below text stuff))
or email me and i will host them on photobucket for you..
if you have all the bits out of the KE1x at the moment.. some good pics showing strutcture and whatnot would be highly appreciated![]()

And welding them to the floorpan is a no no.When you say flex,of course it will flex and eventually rip the floor and mounts clean out or up through the floor. What you need to do is mount them on the chasiss rails so the sway bar is actually doing what it is meant to do.Stop bodyroll.
Cheers Brett.
Oldcorollas, sent you PM.
As for mounting the brackets to the 'chassis', this will be hard as there are minimal sections of chassis on the under carriage anyway. Only the transverse section that runs at the front of the rear seat which is too far forward anyway (swaybar wont reach, same as the front leaf mounts). This being the case, the only real option is to place the swaybar mounts wherever they need to be and constructing some form of additional chassis under the rear seat to suit to help stiffen the area around the floor pan.
then there's the other question: Would a standard 12mm KE70 rear bar be too much when combined with a whiteline front? The cars being 'fabricated' now, so even if it turns out to be overkill, i'd rather do the conversion now and at least be able to pull the swaybar out if it turns out to be no good. Other peoples experience would be good to hear!

it depends what the car is for.
unless the front is very hard, it will still lean into corners and lift the inside rear.. so if anything adding rear bar will just reduce traction
i had twin leaf front with K-mac swaybar (but their squidgy mounts), and eatra rear leaf, and used to lift inside rear badly
but with harder coil only front, more solid front roll bar mounts and more droop in rear leaves... then still i am not sure a rear bar is needed... you wan tth erear wheels to be on the ground
edit: then again.. my front probably wasn't that stiff (thinking back.. wayyy back), so if you do make the front a lot stiffer, rear bar will help to dial it in.
first thing you wanna do is to get neg camber up front too...

hmm, if you could run a bti of reinforcing along on the inside there...? between the tunnel and the semi rail thing..

i would have used bolts instead of weld for that blue bracket.
weld some tabs aroudn the brackets, then bolt them to a stiff single piece of steel above the floor.

Think i might just get some extra channel folded up and run it front to back and link the rear seat chassis section to the rear body below the fuel tank. Seam weld it in there and it'll stiffen things up quite a bit. Especially if I run it directly over the swaybar mounts. I basically just didnt know what type of flexing I could expect and how tough the floor pan would be. It is only a 12mm swaybar so it's not going to be too exccessive either way. Cheers guys

It prolly wont tear anything straight out but like you said if you stiffen it up and stop the floor flexing ya should be alright. What the floor wont like is if you leave it the way it is and thus cause a system thats going to cause a cyclic stressing of the sheet metal and in the end the fatigue will beat it.
